The music Room

Eglantine stiffened. Although she had not ever heard the song before it brought a surprising rush of memories back to her. Of her father taking her small child hands in his own large ones to lead them across the thick strings of her harp...of her doing the same with her younger brother, whispering Gaelic phrases of encouragement.

Tóg bog é she would whisper to the younger boy. He would giggle and concentrate harder, trying to impress his older sister by correctly playing the piece.

Blinking back tears, Eglantine sighed.

Kiara finished the song and then looked over at Eglantine.

"Is something wrong Eglantine?"

Sevastyan's eyes closed a third of the way, the smoke-gray depths seeming distant as he took in the melody and lyrics. There was an enchanting, almost haunting beauty in the tune. He had never heard it before, but there was something about it that seemed familiar to him... a distant memory that was and wasn't, in some odd sort of way, his own. The emotions of recalling whatever it was had been stronger than the images, as generally happened when Sevastyan and music were in a room at the same time.

When the song came to an end, Sevastyan discreetly shook himself out of his reverie and applauded the headmistress' performance. "Rarely, I have found, can vone play and sing at the same time. You do so very vell, Kiara."

At the Headmistress' query to Professor DeLanquar, Sevastyan turned to see what could have elicited such a reaction. There was no point in asking the same question twice so he merely observed, awaiting the response.

Once again, one of Viper was impressed by another hidden music talent. She found it a bit sad that they had all been working together for quite a few months yet had never known of a shared interest. However, her thoughts were interrupted by Eglantine's strange actions. She turned to Eglantine bu like Sevastyan, stayed silent, waiting for an explanation.

Eglantine barely heard Kiara's question. She blinked several times, and then noticed that they were all staring at her.

"I am fine. The music just reminded me of my brother. You do play and sing wonderfully, Kiara. I am sorry I worried you."

Glancing up at Viper, she smiled. "It would be your turn now." she offered.

Taking Professor DeLanquar's words literally, Sevastyan retracted his slightly concerned but otherwise easygoing gaze from its focus. Without realizing he'd done it, Sevastyan nodded as if he understood something a bit more fully than what was revealed. Instead, he'd been focusing on a relative of whom the song had brought to mind - in a good way, of course. He understood a bit more about something that had occurred to him, rather than Eglantine's reply.

At the talk of the next turn, Sevastyan came out of his thoughts and looked to Eglantine. When he realized she was in turn addressing Amaranth, Sevastyan corrected his focus and gave the potions professor an encouraging smile of sorts. He didn't know whether or not she played an instrument, and wasn't about to put her on the spot by asking.

Viper froze, hoping Eglantine was adressing Sevastyan. However, when her gaze did not stray from her's, she realized she was speaking to Viper. She swore mentally and stammered, trying to come up with an excuse.

She offered a small courtesy smile. "I would but, there's no....piano." she broke off, speaking the last word softly. Just as she spoke, a dark, gothic styled piano, much like the one at Viper Manor, appeared. "Cretin," she mentally scolded herself. "It's the bloody room of requirement!"

With a suprising amount of self-control, she concealed her flustered-ness and turned to face the others. "Well....is it not Sevastyan's turn first?" she asked, a small, slightly pleading note slipping through her guard, splashing her voice.

Eglantine was slightly surprised to see how nervous Viper became at the mere thought of playing for her colleagues.
"If you do not wish to play, you do not have to, Professor." she soothed.

Sevastyan was surprised to see Viper nervous amongst her colleagues, though continued to smile despite it. What surprised him even more was when the piano had materialized out of nowhere. So, this room of requirement even supplied you with what you needed while you were in it? Vonderbar,' Sevastyan mused to himself.

His smile widened - if such a thing were possible - when Viper mentioned his turn. Eglantine's statement mirrored what his eyes clearly spoke before he'd had a chance to utter such a thing himself. "My turn vos before Professor DeLanquar's, but I vill oblige if you do not vish to play," he contributed, also in an attempt to soothe Viper's nerves. "I vill need a different guitar, however..."

Instantly, the guitar he'd imagined appeared at his side. "I think I'm beginning to really like this room," he commented with a laugh and slipped the shoulder strap off of the Russian 7-string guitar and took up the acoustic. "Vone moment..." he requested, testing to see what tune it was in. It was perfect.

Once Sevastyan was comfortable, he gripped the fretboard for to play the first chord and cleared his throat. He clearly looked a little nervous, though the Russian would never admit it. Carefully he concentrated on picking the introduction of the song. With an intake of breath and a quick, curious glance at Amaranth, Sevastyan prayed to whom- or whatever that would listen that his accent wouldn't get in the way too much of the lyrics of the song he was about to plunge into... both with the guitar, and with his voice.

As the last notes faded into the air, Viper felt a slight blush splash her pale face before smiling gently. "That was lovely, Sevastyan." she said softly, not expecting the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor of being able to pour such emotion into lyrics. Although, she wondered why he seemed a bit nervous.

Kiara listened to the Sevastyan play, and a smiled formed on her face, he was very good, even better then...

Then a image of Daniel came to her mind, before the death of their daughter. He had been quite a different person before that, he was kind and gentle... but after.. he seemed to die along with their daughter.

Yes Sevastyan sang and played very well it almost put her into a trance with memories.

She snapped out if when Sevastyan finished, Kiara smiled though her eyes were wet she blinked them way.

"You play and sing wonderfully Sevastyan, bravo" she said sincerely.

Viper tore her gaze away from Sevastyan and brought it to the piano. She didn't quite like how Eglantine spoke to her in a "reassuring" manner. To Viper it seemed as though the older woman was somehow mocking her.

She approached the piano slowly, sliding off the table unto the bench without a word to the others. She sat with her legs crossed, not the proper way as her Grandfather had taught and hammered unto her head, but the way she was most comfortable. Especially since this was the first time she had played for an audience since she was about seven, considering she played by herself for herself as a way to relieve stress, etc.

Her hands glided across the smooth ivory keys, before positioning themselves over their proper places as she lightly pressed down, beginning the song.




As her hands danced across the keys, Viper thought of her younger years when her oldest brother Leviathon was still alive and he and their grandfather would sit at the piano in the sitting room and play while she and Dracovan would listen intently, drinking in all the notes played. It was a game between the two of them, where later on they would try to play the entire song solely by ear, for that was the only way their gradnfather Malachite would teach them. He would play a song and have his students try to play it by ear. To sharpen their minds, he explained. Dracovan hated the task and soon gave up on it, along with the piano, but not Viper. She loved it. To her it was like potions, endless puzzles and riddles just begging to be solved.

To Viper, riddles were everything. In her mind, if she could solve all the puzzles in the world, then it wouldn't matter if she could not solve the ultimate puzzle: herself.

Eglantine listened intently to the music.
"That was lovely, Professor." she muttered, sincerely.

Sevastyan bowed his thanks from his seat, smiling at both the accomplishment and the praise received. "Thank much - you are all very kind," he replied just as honestly. The professor noticed Kiara's rapid blinking, but didn't know what to make of it and didn't think it prudent to mention it so openly.

Watching with intrigue as Viper stood and approached the piano, Sevastyan wondered what the Potions Mistress had in mind. Obviously she seemed about to play something for them, but he was curious what exactly she would play.

As the beginning melody reached his ears, Sevastyan could tell it was mellow and a bit dark but beautiful all the same. Needless to say he was slightly surprised when the composition changed tactics, but it was a pleasant surprise. It sounded very much like something his father would have played, only the man's personal instrument preference was the pipe organ.

"Сыгранное добро, змеенжш! Некоторое время в виду того что я услышал рояль сыгранный настолько наилучшим образом!" Sevastyan exclaimed, not realizing he had done so in his native language. Sometimes it was a pain in the rear, being bilingual, but at least his tone would convey what his foreign words could not.


((He said, "Well played, Viper! It has been some time since I heard the piano played so well!" Sevastyan would not be embarrassed if asked to translate... I didn't want to just have him assume he needed to repeat that... only in English. ^_^))

Viper smiled at Eglantine's response and smiled even wider at Sevastyan's. She raised an eyebrow at the words Sevastyan uttered. She knew it a positive comment, but she wasn't sure on specifics.

"I'm sorry? Could you please repeat that?" she asked with grace. Not because she was looking to be showered with praise, but out of genuine curiousity.

Eglantine raised a hand to her mouth to hide a smile. Although her Russian was "rusty" she had no difficulty understanding his statement.

Kiara smiled at Sevastyan's exclamation, she didn't understand a word of it but the tone of his voice indicated to her he was impressed.

So was she.

"Play wonderfully Viper, it was beautiful"

Sevastyan was initially confused by Viper's request. Replaying what he'd said in his mind, he grinned as though he'd just understood a mildly funny joke. "Forgive me - I sometimes slip into my mother tongue... I said you played very vell, and that it has been some time since I heard the piano played so vell!" he translated, without a hint of embarrassment or nervousness.

Viper smiled and dropped her gaze. "Thank you." she replied softly.

Raven went inside the room and looked around seeing a piano and sat down. She ran her fingers across the keys of the piano and started play a song she knew for a very long time.

Kiara walked into the music room, rubbed her stiff neck she had finally gotten all those astronomy essays done, and she was wipped, it was just after around 10 o clock and she had a song playing in her head all day that she couldn't get rid of.

For some reason she felt like playing the guitar this time, instead of the violin, it seemed to fit more.

Struming afew times to get the feel of it she started playing.

Kiara walked into the music room, a song had been play in her head again and with all that happened with Eglantine she wanted to sing it.

Picking up a Guitar she started to sing and play.

"That was lovely..." Eglantine stated softly. She had unshed tears shimmering in her green eyes and "stood" levitating just inside of the door.

Kiara smiled at familar voice and looked up.

"I am so glad you liked it Eglantine, it is dedicated to you after all" she said placing her instruments away and standing up.

Eglantine cocked her head to the side. "To me?" she repeated, although her voice lacked the usual curiosity ascribed to one asking a question. She knew why Kiara had picked that song and from what she had heard of the lyrics...was deeply touched.
