My Office

Kiara nodded, she didn't have a problem with snakes as long as the didn't cause TOO much trouble.

"I am shocked you didn't have one before actually, being able to talk to snakes and all"

Viper shrugged as she played with Dracon. "I suppose I never felt the need to have a constant companion until now. I don't know why but when dracon is with me, I feel...safer, more secure." she met Kiara's gaze. "I'm sure you understand. Is that not how it is with you and your phoenix?"

Kiara nodded "Of course, we have become a part of each other I guess, magical animal familiars have a way of connecting to your very core of who you are. You having your snake charming abilities it is no wonder you feel safer with him."

Sevastyan Kaminski was dressed in closed blood-red robes with fur-lined lapels and Doc Marten boots, the clothing underneath this unable to be seen. His ushanka – a squarish fur hat – was still on his head, having just arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The sandalwood walking stick he carried clicked against the marble floor in time with his boots as he walked, and again when he stopped abruptly before the gargoyle guarding the Headmistress’ quarters. It had been an interesting task finding the entrance: he'd had to stop a senior student, a professor, and a ghost for directions.

“I vould like to speak to the Headmistress,” he told the sentient stone in a serious tone. “It is about the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, for vich I have applied. She is likely expecting me.”

All was silent for a few awkward moments, the gargoyle unflinching under Sevastyan’s severe scrutiny. Then, slowly, it moved as though with great reluctance. ‘Are protected entries alvays this suspicious of people?’ he couldn’t help but muse to himself and stepped forward. “Spasiba ((Thank you in Russian, though I'm not sure on the spelling)),” Sevastyan muttered to the stone guardian and approached the door. Grasping the brass doorknocker, Sevastyan gave it two stiff raps and waited in mild patience for permission to enter.

Kiara haulted the charm on her quill as the charm on the door alerted her to Sevastyan at the door.

Waving her hand she wandlessly opened to door.

"Come on in" she said.

At the request to enter Sevastyan grasped the handle of the door and stepped into the office with a kind of graceful awkwardness, and closed the door behind him. The staff he carried was now quieted to mere thuds due to the carpeting as he approached the fine desk his employer sat behind. "Good day, Headmistress. I hope this day finds you vell?" he greeted Kiara without any open misgivings about his transfer having been delayed. Truth be told, he didn't really have any misgivings at all. It was ultimately the Ministry that made the decisions - the same could be said of his own country's magical government. And they surely wouldn't hinder the education of the next generation of witches and wizards without just cause.

"Did you receive the owl vith my transfer papers? I have an extra copy in case they somehow flew off course," he asked formally, but made no move yet to retrieve them. "One of the ghosts advised I should see you - Nikolai I think his name vos - and showed me the vay. He said there vos something about my transfer being delayed due to a few questionable circumstances?" Personally, Sevastyan thought the ghost likely forgot that visiting the Headmaster or Headmistress of the school one was going to work for was a common courtesy, even in Russia, but kept the opinion to himself.

Kiara smiled "Good day to you as well Professor Kaminski, yes I did get your paper, a few days ago infact."

With a wave if her hand she summoned the papers from her folder.

"As for the delay in your transfer, I believe I know why... Drumstrang has been under severe investigation for a murder of a student and very dark magic being taught to students. Anyone with close associations with drumstrang would be delayed in any trasfer" Kiara explained.

Looking up she wasn't sure how much Sevastyan knew of the inccident at drumstrang so she waited for his answer.

Sevastyan nodded, glad the papers arrived where they needed to be. Preparedness was something he tended to strive for, unlike his semi-impulsive brother. While he waited for Kiara's summoning spell to do its work, Sevastyan took a seat in a chair across from her and propped the staff against the left-hand arm of the seat, which seemed to be made of a fine, warm-hued wood.

He listened patiently to what she had to say, though the moment the word 'murder' reached his ears his facial expression changed drastically from its neutral position. Thick brows furrowed, not out of anger but out of worry; his eyes alight with an emotional fire conflicted between displaying pity for and a kind of outrage on behalf of the deceased student. Toward the end of Kiara's explanation, Sevastyan's eyes had hardened to form a kind of guard as though he expected to be subjected to Legilimency.

"I understand. I regret to say that I knew this professor very vell, and vos in correspondence vith him ven he got the job. Or rather I thought I knew him," Sevastyan replied levelly. "Had I heard of this, I . . . I vould have done all in my power to prevent such a thing. Unfortunately some of our own even tend to think ve Durmstrang are taught about the Dark Arts to use them for votever ends ve might vant to achieve," he added, a hint of disgust toward his former school-age friend quite deliberately undisguised. He'd wanted to explain in excruciating detail what he would have like to have done to the Durmstrang professor, but decided that wasn't likely the best of moves to make. Sevastyan reminded himself he was at a school, after all.

"Vill other measures be in place to ensure the safety of students? I believe Hogvarts only teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts, correct?" He asked, though knew they both knew the answer to his second question. The fields in which the Headmistress and he both taught had been mentioned at the ball. But yet, defense against the dark arts also required a general knowledge of the dark arts themselves according to his own professor when Sevastyan was the student. It would be interesting to see if there were any restrictions here that differed from his standard syllabus.

Kiara sighed, and explained about restriction of the knowledge of the Horcurxes.

"Very few people are informed of the exictence of horcurxes here. Only aurors with the rank of Captian and above are told about them and how they are made. There isn't defence against them other then prevention of them being made or destroyed. I suppose I was to late in my warning to the minstry. Defence it taught here only. We mention and even explain what the dark counter parts do but we don't teach the spells them selves, only their defence"

Holding on to the transfer papers Kiara read though them briefly as she already read them.

Looking up she continued. "Well everything appeares to be in order, do you have any questions about what has been taught in class so far or no?" she asked.

Sevastyan listened intently while appearing slightly more relaxed than he had been upon entering the office, nodding when he deemed it appropriate to do so. From the corner of his eyes the Russian took note of the many portraits lining the walls. No doubt the subjects' real-life counterparts all headed the school at one point or another, and he had recognized Albus Dumbledore right off the bat who was also nodding in agreement with the current Headmistress. Personally, Sevastyan was fine with not teaching the students Dark spells and practices: such magic led him to a place he'd rather not return to unless there wasn't much choice. Durmstrang taught him well, though perhaps a little too well.

"I am curious as to vot is being covered - I vouldn't vant to give the students the same lecture tvice. If it is not too much trouble, of course," Sevastyan responded courteously. "I understand as Headmistress you must be very busy..."

Kiara smiled and shook her head. "Nonsence, I am never to busy to do what is supposd to be my job anyway. I have gone over how Harry Potter defeated Voldemort. the first and second time, we have also gone over the Expelliarmus charm. They are all rather good at spell work I don't think you will find any trouble, so."

Kiara summed her quill and had it write her signeture on the the new defence professors first two lesson plans..

((PS the reason she uses wandless magic all the time is because her right arm (wand arm) is in a sling so she can't cast spells with her wand.))

“Thank you; I vos planning to teach dueling procedures as vell as the Expelliarmus charm, but I see that has been taken care of,” he replied pleasantly, a smile crossing his features that went all the way up to his gray eyes. As he stood, Sevastyan was about to make an inquiry about the sling she wore on her arm. Had the students been a bit overzealous in their spellwork, or was it some other accident, he wondered? Since she didn’t seem to be in any overwhelming amounts of pain, he wasn’t going to ask into it. Merlin knows he has his secrets, and therefore if she had wanted him to know about it she would have told him.

“I find it is alvays a teacher’s hope that the lessons vill be vell-received by their students,” he offered in agreement. “I guess I shall be on my vay to my new office, if there is nothing else for the moment that you require of me?”

"No nothing more at the moment, I will let you be on your way then and good luck Professor. And you may call me Kiara if you wish to, Headmistress make me feel old" said Kiara.

"Many thanks . . . Kiara. Likevise, the title of 'Professor' makes me feel ages older than I should be, so I vould not object to being addressed as Sevastyan," he replied jovially, beginning to reach out with his more-dominant left to shake hands with her and correcting the mistake by offering his right hand instead.

“It vill certainly be a pleasure to be vorking here vith you and our fellow colleagues,” he said by way of farewell before turning and making a rather comfortable pace for the door.

Kiara smiled and nodded, " Have a nice day Sevastyan, I am sure you will like it here at Hogwarts."

Darien groaned. Back to the head's office again. At least at Durmstrang they'd been used to teenage boys breaking every rule in their paths...
But they had also allowed his friend to be killed.
He cursed. Was Jake's death going to haunt him forever?
He pushed the letter from the headmistress into an inside pocket and knocked on the door.
What had he done now?

Kiara sighed as she felt Mr. Vaights precence at the door, she wasn't looking forward to this and add to the fact she was in a great amount of pain didn't help either.

Waving her hand he opened the door.

"Come in Mr. Vaight" she said.

He shoved the door open and let it slam behind him.
"Let's skip the pleasantries shall we? Alright, what have I done now?"
As he was sure she could tell, he was in a bad mood.

"Very well Mr. Vaight... did you know it is against school rules to attack the animal on the grounds of Hogwarts? It is very much against the rules infact, exspelsion is a common punishment for it with out good reason." said Kiara not liking the tone in his voice.

Darien raised an eyebrow.
"What are you talking about?" It all clicked into place. "That Pony-Gryffie!"
His eyes blazed.
"Well why don't you just lock me in the dungeon for a couple of days or write to my father...Maybe he'd actuallybe proud of me for once...No wait, that is not going to happen. Tell you what, why don't you just expell me and I'll spend the rest of my life breaking rules, eventually to get caught and sent to Azkaban or something by the ministry."
He couldn't help thinking that made his 'destiny' look a lot better...

Kiara shook her head.

"Mr. Vaight are you honsetly telling you want to be expelled? I know perfectly well of your amosity toward Mr. Casillas, and I have been leniant in these matters. What problems you and he have are none of my buisness. But when you harm a animal under my protection I need to interfer."

Kiara didn't want to expell him, she believed in 2nd chances but he had to want it to.

Under her protection.
"For Merlin's sake! It is just a horse. You'd think it was the living incarnation of Merlin! Oh wow, Nick has a horse! Let's make him ruler of the world...I'll move to Mars and risk death. You people all hate me, and I quite honestly don't know why! Aren't you used to teenage boys at this school?"
Darien temper mounted, his eyes gleaming with incredible frustration.

Kiara felt her own fustration mount and the blue fire surronded her once again as she stood up, and stood in front of the boy. Her own mood going from bad to worse.

"Mr. Vaight I have nothing against you, and I don't want you to give up everything Because of this. That horse like all the other animals of hogwarts are under my protection. It may job to make sure none of them come to harm. Just as it is my job to make sure all the students here are safe."

Darien rolled his eyes.
"Well make sure you don't burn those under your protection..."
He folded his arms defiantly.

Kiara's eyes flashed but she turned the fire down, "Mr. Vaight that well be 75 points from slytherin and a mouths worth of detention with me in the stables. Where you will learn respect for those there. Is that clear?"
