((Yay!! Lora's finally getting a post! Figured I'd start a new class rather picking up from the last one and causing confusion xD))
Lora quickened her pace through the stone halls of Hogwarts, her flats clicking rather noisily and echoing through the space. She had 5 minutes to reach her classroom and she was determined not to be late this time. As a first year professor of charms, it would be quite unprofessional – and not to mention embarrassing – for her to be late to her own class. Lora didn’t normally get this nervous, but this was the biggest opportunity she’d ever received and she did not want to screw this up. Muttering to herself reminders of what the class was to entail, Lora had high hopes that this year would be a success. She could hardly contain herself when she acquired the job and felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment for all of her years of studying and sacrificing a social life to advance her academic career. To be honest, she hardly regretted it, figuring there would be plenty of time for that after she was situated with a stable job.
Lora had just reached her classroom door when the books and few pieces of parchment slid from her grasp as she reached for the handle.
“Oh for Merlin’s sake…” she muttered and quickly and rather haphazardly gathered them up again and finally entering the room. The student’s murmuring amongst themselves continued as she made her way to the head of the class, setting her disarray of supplies upon the desk.
Looking up, Lora felt a small lump rise in her throat as the reality of everything she’d worked for finally hit her. Here she was, about to teach her first Charms class. With a deep breath, Lora cleared her throat, pulled out her wand and loudly chanted:
“Silencio!”Doing her best to suppress a giggle at the students’ puzzled faces at their sudden lack of the ability to speak, Lora continued.
“That, students, is what we call your typical silencing charm. It can be quite useful – as you can see – or, quite harmful, depending on the situation. Now,
I’ve used it as a means to get your attention. However, since I am limited to what charms I am allowed to use on students, I can assure you now that no danger will come to you in this class…at least under
my control. You are responsible for your own correct…or incorrect charms.” She couldn’t help but give a slight knowing smirk, knowing that botched charms are always inevitable in a classroom. With a wave of her wand, Lora reversed the silencing spell and then aimed it to a piece of chalk. The chalk rose into the air and began writing on the blackboard behind her in a somewhat elegant writing:
Professor Lorelei Burton - Charms “Now that I have your attention, I want you all to open your
Standard Book of Spells to Chapter One: Proper Pronunciation Practice. And…um…practice pronouncing the listed charms...if you please. Do not, I repeat, do NOT use your wands just yet; there will be plenty of time for that later today. One of the most important aspects of spoken spells is saying them correctly. Mispronounced charms can result in disastrous results, so therefore it is more important to learn to speak them correctly first before attempting to execute them.” Lora paused to asses that the students followed her instructions before taking a seat in her desk chair. So far, the class was going well…but then, it’s only been ten minutes, and Lora was in a room full of inexperienced witches and wizards.
This should be interesting, she thought to herself…
