Professor Horatio McKevin's first lesson will be posted soon...

Horatio McKevin entered his first History of Magic class. The students were assembled and all seemed to be in order.

Without having to cast a sonorous on his voice, he addressed the students, each of them hearing him clearly thanks to his deep projecting voice.

"Good afternoon! I am Professor McKevin, your new History of Magic teacher. In a few lessons we will begin to delve into the deep dark past that shadows the world we live in..." He beamed as several students dropped their heads on their desks.

"Only kidding. We are going to be learning about battles, epic adventures and events that will amaze you. Now let's start with a "breaking the ice" game. I am going to be passing out these slips of paper. On your slip, write your name, first and last, and underneath it write interesting fact about yourself. It can be something silly or serious. Tear the paper in half and fold them both neatly, so that your name is on one slip and the fact is on another. "

A conjured hat floated in front of Horatio. "When you are done, raise your hand and I'll levitate the papers into this hat."

The twins looked at eachother and shrugged "My as well brother, it is no secret now"

They wrote down "We are magical connected twins.. signed Amy and Aiden Avalon"

They raised there hands.

Horatio easily caused the paper to float into the hat. "No need to be shy. But if you have some dark secret that you would rather not share with us, you don't need to join in."

Nicolas took the sheet of paper and several things went through his mind. He wrote it quicky and wrote his name on the other sheet and raised his hand as well.

Darien sighed.
Some dark secret...hah! He must be the only Vaight throughout history without a dark and evil secret...Ana probably already had one.
He sighed and scrawled his name on the slip.
Darien Vaight...
And now for the interestinf fact...
Finished, he raised his hand.

Floating several more pieces of paper into the hat, Horatio's grin grew wider. Several of the students looked rather bored... well, he could easily change that.

Whispering several complex incantations, he transfigured his chair into a small bear cub and charmed it to dance around. It was wearing little bells all over its furry little body and made a comical sight, grunting and twirling in circles.

Michael blinked. A "breaking the ice game"? The Hufflepuff had never heard of a professor offering a game right off the bat. In Michael's mind was an hourglass room much like the one that contained House points in the corner of the Great Hall: and Horatio just received a considerable bonus to his.

The first slip of paper was unquestionably the easiest: the name Michael Blackwood was fluidly scrawled onto the parchment.

'Now for an interesting fact...' he mused. What was interesting about him? Well, he was born in America, was bitten by a runespoor and had the scars and a fang (the latter of which was dangling from his left ear at this very moment, as a matter of fact) to prove it, and played a "modified" electric guitar and could sing along with the tune at the same time. . . there had to be something interesting there. Michael wrote down the instrument he played on the second slip. Maybe it was interesting, but perhaps it wasn't. He personally thought knowing how to play an instrument without much magic was fascinating.

Carefully, he leaned slightly to the left to get a good look at the transfigured bear cub from his place in the middle of the classroom. It had certainly caught his attention. Michael couldn't help but chortle a little at the sight as he raised his hand, signaling he'd completed his part of the game.

Horatio levitated one of the final pieces of paper into the hat and stirred it around with his hand.

Another hand raised, this time a tall blonde Slytherin girl and he caused her paper to float into the hat as well.

"Very well, anyone else?" he asked. So far it looked like everyone who was going to participate had done so. "Okay, now, how we are going to play this game is simple. I have divided the Name slips from the Interesting Fact slips in this hat. I will pass this around and each of you will withdrawal one name and one interesting fact. Then you will read your combination aloud. The results of the mismatched facts and names should break the ice."

He chuckled as the cub tripped over its own chubby paw and then transfigured several nearby items into dancing mice, which were adorable as they waltzed together in pairs.

Nicolas chuckled. It wasn't so much as it was the transfigured bear but because he wondered what the person who got his slip would think. "I've always wanted a ray-gun" wasn't exactly something people said.

Darien sighed.
He felt like he'd walked into a cheap magical circus.
He was already beginning to regret writing his interesting fact.
I once spent 63hours in a tree.

Horatio handed the hat to the first student his long steps took him to. If his seating chart was correct, it was a Mr. Darien Vaight.
"All right, dig right in there and read the name and the interesting fact, Darien." he stated loudly enough for the whole class to hear.

Darien sighed and stuck his hand into the hat.
Grasping a slip of paper, he pulled it out.

Darien read out the slips in his hand.
"Horatio McKevin - I've always wanted a ray gun...?"
He sniggered quietly.

Horatio guffawed loudly, slapping his knee as he sat in front of his desk.
"Something so interesting that I did not even know about." he joked. "I believe you are next Mr. Blackwood."

Michael couldn't help but laugh in response to what Darien had stated was on the parchment slips. He had some of an idea of what a ray-gun was, having lived firmly between the magical and muggle realms all fifteen years of his young life, but never had he really thought about owning one. 'Who did the interesting fact really belong to?' he wondered.

The lad didn't have much time to ponder this, for he was called next to participate. He reached into the hat, a combination of a smile and a smirk on his face as he did so, and unfolded the two he'd selected. "Bellatrix Rosier... I once spent sixty-three hours in a tree...?" It wasn't quite as funny as the ray-gun, but Michael laughed slightly anyway. Briefly, he turned in his chair to look at the rest of the class and find this girl, his fang earring dangling about wildly. No such luck: he'd only just arrived here a year ago and didn't really know too many people outside of his own house yet. Once settled into his seat properly he looked again to Professor McKevin, blindly reaching for the swinging fang to stop it from moving.


((I'm going to just assume this is before the Astronomy class, since he would likely have recognized her if it wasn't.))

Horatio chuckled, glancing over at Bella Rosier, who rolled her eyes. Obviously she did not see the humour in the situation.

Hmm...spoil sport, Horatio thought. He moved the hat over in front of the girl.
"Why don't you go next, Miss Rosier." The girl stood and pulled two slips out of the hat.

"Nicholas Casillas: I greatly enjoy Magical History." She smiled briefly, guessing that he probably didn't enjoy it quite that much.

Darien laughed mockingly.
"Does your pony enjoy it too?" he hissed out of the corner of his mouth, not bothered if anyone other than Nick heard as well.

Nicolas ignored Darien and took two slips from the hat.

'Amy and Aiden Avalon: I play a modified electric guitar' Nicolas read. "Grammer's wrong and I know the twins play piano and violin. Who play's the guitar?"

"A certain flying horse." Darien smirked.

Nicolas cast a silent silencing spell on Darien.

Darien cursed inwardly as he realised he'd been silenced.
He non-verbally cast the counter-spell and an equally silent protego, to prevent further attacks.

Michael turned in his seat to see who had asked who played the guitar, and raised his hand slightly. "The guitar's me," he said with a slight grin to the boy with the Gryffindor crest on his robes. Michael had no idea there was an exchanging of spells going on, but had the feeling there was a rivalry between the two speakers just by the way they spoke to one another.

Darien took advantage of the distraction provided by the hufflepuff to send a tickling charm at Nicolas and recast protego around himself.
He nodded politely to the Hufflepuff and then glanced at the teacher he thought was clinically insane.
