2031 ~ A Night in the Muggle Cinema

"I'd noticed, what with the extraordinary horse in the garden." She smiled, preferring not to reference a flying horse in a muggle area.

Wouldn't want everyone to think they were mad.

Nicolas grinned sheepishly. "Not a pet person?"

Ana laughed. "It's not that I hate them- I suppose I just never had one myself."

"Really? Why not?" Nicolas asked chewing some popcorn.

Ana shrugged. "Just never really occurred to me, or my parents. I think Da-" She broke off the sentence.

"We had enough to deal with, I suppose." She hastily changed the subject. No use getting all teary again.

Nicolas nodded in understanding. "I'd always been an only child so, it got awfully lonely, I'd to keep pets or else I'd go mad."

"It also makes you treasure your friends, playmates, cousins a lot more." He added.

Ana nodded. "I suppose it would."

Of course, many of her 'playmates' or relatives were not in contact with her any longer. Not now.

"It's a shame to lose friends." She sighed, skirting around the reason why.

Nicolas let the conversation fall as the movie screen started to play pictures.

Ana watched with interest. Lots of muggle advertisements, for things that seemed oddly glorified and purposeless, then the film itself began.

...There were a lot of zombies.

Not to mention a lot of blood.

She steeled herself. She was not going to jump, or scream or even seem surprised...although there were some times when they leapt out...

Even though this wasn't the first time that Nicolas went to the movies, sometimes, he forgets when he's watching that it's through a screen. One of these times was now. When the main character was being chased by a particularly gruesome undead. He thought he was in the clear when suddenly, BAM! Zombie attack!

Nicolas forgot where he was and held on to Ana.

Ana almost leapt out of her skin as something latched onto her arm.

However, when she saw it was a seemingly terrified Nick, she nearly cried with laughter. It might be cruel, but it was hilarious.

"Are you alright?" She whispered, with just a hint of hidden amusement.

Nicolas was thankful it was dark as he was sure as it was night, he was blushing like an idiot. "Yeah..." And he couldn't even think of a decent excuse.

Ana couldn't stop a small chuckle escaping her. "You do realise this could completely destroy your masculine credibility?"

"I have no idea what you are talking about." He shielded transparently. "I simply wanted to know if you were alright." Yes. There. He wanted to know if she was alright. That's the perfect excuse!

"By cutting off the circulation to my arm?" Ana was not buying it. "Or perhaps by clinging to me like a particularly sticky child?"

She chuckled as a burst of light on the screen displayed how pale he'd turned. "Do you want to leave?" Ana asked, with a touch of genuine concern. Not much, but just a tad.

"No," He said a little too quickly. "I have to find out how it ends." He added.

Ana chuckled. "I think you could probably guess."

She glanced back at the screen, showing a zombie being decapitated while another sliced it's teeth into the main character.

"Do you want to grab a piece of pie afterwards?" He whispered. He didn't know why but he felt rather hungry despite the gore.

"Sure, why not?" Ana whispered back. "Although how you can think of pie when that guy's intestine-"

"It's very good p..." Nicolas shut his mouth. Not trusting what would happen if he kept it open.

Ana's attention was once more absorbed by the gore on the screen.

Wow, that was...eurgh.

The lights couldn't come on soon enough.

Eventually though, the main character, who managed to find a perfectally attractive un-zombiezed girl in the mall infested by zombies managed to find a bright red mustang and drive away in the sunlight.

And the lights went on.

"What did you think?"

Ana blinked as her eyes adjusted to the sudden change in lighting. "Well, it was...certainly gruesome and distinctly improbable."

She smirked. "What did you think, oh manly man?" No sarcasm at all...much.

Nicolas rolled his eyes at the nickname. Great. She now thought he was a whimp.

"I think we should get some pie, that's what I think."

"Sounds good to me." Ana smirked, standing up and watching the muggles slowly leave. Presumably that was what they were meant to do.
