| I have often wondered if perhaps mental anguish is the most prominent and poignant of all pains. Indeed, it would appear that though physical pain is great and no doubt difficult to bear...it hardly compares to mental anguish. Why this is, still is beyond my ability to understand. Maybe it is simply the fact that we as humans can endure a laceration or a bruise to the flesh tenfold that that we can a dagger to the heart.
Worrying about Edwin today, as he is beginning to speak more German than English. Horatio has suggested that I only speak in English to him, instead of correcting him whenever he misbehaves in German. Perhaps there is something to be taken from Horatio's suggestion...and yet I dislike the idea of my son learning only English. By his age, my brother, Edmund could communicate in German and Gaelic...thus I see no reason why Edwin cannot do the same.
Esis found her cognac this morning. Apparently Horatio did no hide it as well as he thought. I would never have looked for it in the lake, but one must never underestimate Lachesis Malfoy.
My classes went well today. Bellatrix has stopped interrupting and is a model student. I have yet to decide whether or not that is to concern me... perhaps she did simply decide to behave herself. But there may be something else that I have failed to see. Maybe a boy... she has been with Michael Blackwood a great deal recently. Ironically he also escorted her at the Yule Ball. Her father will not approve if she has indeed made a commitment to the young man as he is a Hufflepuff, but I see no reason to do anything about it.
Kiara seems to be doing well. She has been distracted no doubt by Yuletide and her wedding preparations... I have yet to see why she fell in love with Ciaran McConn after only such a short time. But between my informant and Horatio, I am certain he has no hostile intentions and seems to be a reasonable young man...

| Horatio has begun to complain about his weight. Although he is hardly heavy, by any stretch of the imagination, he has taken up running 3 kilometers every day. Before breakfast, Edwin and I time his run... before lunch, we do so again and then finally before he eats supper. Honestly, I am hoping he will give up before he kills himself... | |

| A man of kind face A jovial thought- No wonder for you Fate has bought
The extended life Which holds you well, For you to laugh And in it dwell-
Jealously not, surely not For who in spite Or ragely envy Smites the light
Saying it is far To lovely to be- And thus you are As light to me. | |

| Excessum's spells and counter-curses- Spoiler:
- Excessum Neci (ash-reducing life force taking spell)
Excessum Differo (delayed death... similar to Neci but takes longer)
Viva Gero (counter-curse to Neci, returns victim to life)
Excessum Saepenumero (used to attack a large group of people... repeats again and again until stopped)
Excessum sopor (Instead of killing the person or draining their life force into the caster, it places them within a deep sleep that only the counter spell can awaken them from)
Misericordia imitor (literally it imitates mercy allowing those in sopor to awaken without being forever enslaved)
Eluvi Defessus (Crushes the opponent or victim's energy through a flood of weariness) MORE TBA
