| Name: Eglantine Karis DeLanquar-McKevin Nicknames: Lenty (by her husband and cousin) Date of Birth: Description: Eglantine is short, 5 feet, and slender with long blonde hair, which she keeps in a loose bun at the nape of her neck and dark green eyes. Her skin is abnormally pale and her hands tremble slightly from lack of warmth or simple magical disturbances.
She has an asp tattoo which is hidden under several enchantments due to its rather dark appearance. Its location is not fixed and thus it has appeared in many different areas. Mainly though she has it appear on her left writst. Scars on her chest and back from duels are present in long jagged marks from near her neck to her stomach and her lower back. More scars such as faint cut marks are present on her wrists, not from suicide attempts but from blood-potions, and her palms. Despite her now separation from the dark Excessum, many of the cursed runes are still carved under her skin, revealing themselves when she sees fit.
She does not wear jewelry, not even her wedding band, due to the poor condition of her hands, which she covers with white or grey gloves, or extremely long sleeved robes, which drape over her hands. Often times she wears a cloak that covers her head as well, as she finds bright light and its warmth fairly irritating.
More often than not, Eglantine is in possession of a silver cane, within which she keeps her wand on most occasions. Her attire is mostly grey robes with black over-robes and darker burgundy dress-robes on formal occasions. She does not wear hats of any sort and her shoes are always sensibly flat.
Her robes are always long sleeved, with her outer robes creating heavy dropping sleeves and her inner robes tightly concealing her scarred arms and wrists. Unlike her robes that she wore during her first years of teaching, she has her robes reach up to her neck, to hide her scars and often wears an additional cloak even over her outer robes to provide additional warmth, which she appears to have trouble with. Personality: Eglantine usually comes across as a dutiful and kind woman, with a reserved nature and pleasant demeanor. Patient to a fault, she is a good teacher and a gentle instructor. Her detentions are usually practical and her punishments are rarely excessive. All four houses of students receive the same exact portion of her favour, despite the fact she is Gryffindor's head of house and she does not believe it proper to show favour to her own family members being taught at Hogwarts. Thus her own children never take her position as their teacher or HoH as a safety net.
She rarely smiles as she prefers logical order and truth to silliness. Although reserved she is a loyal friend when friendship has been established. Deeply passionate about her work, she is somewhat obsessive with nearly everything she does, something that she morphed into after loosing her deeper connection with Excessum. Going from a fairly lenient professor to a intolerant one, Eglantine does not allow silliness in her classes and holds to the principle that in order to learn in school one must pay attention... even if that means said student must pay said attention in detention due to inattention. Despite her strict adherence to order however, Eglantine does not truly care what students do outside of her class room, often allowing pranks, misbehavior and similar misdemeanors to go unpunished or simply ignored.
With her family, Eglantine is very similar as she is with her students, only more lenient. Her youngest child, Sevie, is the apple of her eye and is the only child that can get away with anything in her presence. The twins, Ewan and Ean, have a good relationship with their mother, however both are known to be mischievous, the former more so than the latter and she keeps a close eye on them. Ava and Ara, have strained, to say the least, the bonds of motherly and daughterly affection. While Ara is mainly unsure of how to relate to her reserved mother, Ava's rebellious desire to top her mother both to make her proud and to crush her tore their relationship till it is unrepairable. Edwin is far more understanding of Eglantine than his younger siblings and often attempts to comfort her and his father after their quarrels with Ava. Thus, her relationship with Edwin is good although not extremely strong. Eleutheria, due to having not known Eglantine most of her life, is distant, only rarely making visits or appearances with her three children. Of all her children, Kiara is the one Eglantine is closest to...although even that relationship is strained at times and Eglantine often wonders at Kiara's continuing love for her despite their history.
Due to having delved deeply into the dark arts and her continuing delving, Eglantine is a formidable witch with powerful magical abilities. She has a natural, Excessum, ability to feel certain emotions from certain people and is fairly susceptible to darker feelings. Although she was separated from Excessum, she has yet nor probably ever will totally leave it behind as she put far too much of herself into it.
