| Exterior View of Ethan's Residence (Click Here) Ethan owns a quaint, semi-rustic ranch-style home and an expansive area for gardening. Though from the outside it appears that it's a one-story home only, the wizard has a special enchantment on the home that magically expands the interior to include an expansive loft. His bedroom, 2 guestrooms, a study, and a few other residential odds and ends can be found on this level. Despite his literary wealth, even after its halfway split, he has chosen to keep his home in this country motif for its relaxing qualities. There is an expansive living room, a moderate-sized kitchen and a small family dining room. Because he acquired this home after his divorce, it is clear that five people would have a hard time sitting around the dining room table. Ethan saw no need in accommodating such large sizes when his time with his kids was to be so little. An indoor garden lines one whole wall of the living room. His sense of decor has that marked country look, but certain items are so quirky they practically scream: "I BELONG TO ETHAN ADDAMS!" Abstract angles and designs, along with a splash of modern decor here and there, seem to contrast the antique-ish overall look of the house. Beneath the home is a root cellar, where Ethan does a lot of his indoor herbological work (and the illicit stuff as well - shhh! ^_~). A laundry room can also be found down there. The gardens are split into different categories: Vegetable, Orchard, Herb, Flower, and Magical. The weeds are just as welcome as the rest of the plants, and are magically treated to ensure they do not choke his plants with a special formula sprayed onto the leaves of said garden pests. Magical wards keep out most of the animal-type pests, though there are scarecrows and other deterring devices out and about that are mostly there for appearance's sake. There is a sign on the cobbled walk to his home that states: BEWARE OF DOG A very miniature owlery tower stands on the opposite side for post owls to come, drop off post, and rest a bit before going home. One will find ample food and water for the birds in various dishes lining the inside of the "gigantic birdhouse". Even if the owl is not dropping off post for him, they are more than welcome to rest there. All in all, it looks to be a pleasant retreat one can retire to. Magically-powered electronic devices do work there: he has a laptop for email (which is currently with him at Hogwarts), a phone, and several other similar devices. | |

| ((not necessarily a double-post... considering this takes place in December))
Four heavily-bundled figures trod the snow-covered path to Ethan's home. They had Apparated, or Side-along Apparated, to the location. One of the figures was taller than the rest, and two were exactly the same in height and color of cloak. The tallest of the quartet had the smaller three huddled in front while she guided them through the firm winds whipping the excess folds of their hoods this way and that and the snow that drenched their magically-enhanced winter gear.
"Why isn't the pathway shoveled like it usually is?" asked the smallest figure, glancing up to the tallest of the group. Valerio's brown eyes gazed up to his mother, curious and worried about his father. Normally he would have a path for them already cleared out.
"I don't know, sweetheart," Laura replied, wandlessly clearing a path for them to walk through. She honestly hoped Ethan wouldn't mind. To be completely honest she thought that he'd best not mind: he was the one that demanded he see them every weekend. True, the past month or so had been rather hard but... well, they were here now. It was the letters that eventually got to her: the frequency in which they were sent. Laura hoped her children wouldn't be too angry when or if they realized she'd withheld the letters and denied their father news for so long.
She couldn't let him or her children know what was wrong with her...
Finally, they reached the patio. The wards around the house included a warming charm during the winter months. Ethan's ex-wife and children all shivered happily as the additional warmth washed over them. Laura lowered her hood, a short-ish cascade of yellow-flaxen hair tumbling from its confines. With three expectant pairs of eyes on her, Laura knocked on the door. "Ethan!" she called, hoping her ex-husband would let them in soon. Her Healer had deliberately emphasized that she was to stay out of the cold and damp until she was a bit stronger than she was now...
When she didn't receive an answer, Laura knocked again. "Ethan, please! It's Laura! Open the door! Your children are here to see you." That almost always made him open the portal into his home on the double.
One of the girls knelt and dug out a key from a flowerpot beside the door. "Papa always keeps a key in there," Erica explained and held the key up to her mother while pointing at the flower pot. "Do you think he's all right?"
"He's not hurt is he?" asked Heather, Erica's twin sister.
"What if he's not home?" Erica demanded to know. It was really hard to tell who was speaking when, what with their being identical twins in almost every respect of the term.
"I don't know, but we'll see, miei tesori," Laura attempted to comfort her daughters, addressing them as 'my darlings,' in Italian. A sense of trepidation flowed through her as she contemplated the key. The last time she butted in on Ethan's private time she'd found much more than she bargained for, and they had even been married at the time! The passion of their marriage long since turned to ice, Laura forced the key into the lock and turned it. Once the door was opened, she handed the key to one of the twins to replace where they'd gotten it from.
"Oi! You four the Addams lot?!" called a masculine voice from several meters away.
Laura jumped and turned to find a wizard approaching them. It wasn't Ethan, but rather one of the crofters her ex-husband often had over for poker every then and again. "Yes, Patrick, it's us. Is Ethan in, do you know?" the woman called.
"He ain't been home for some time, lass. Been 'bout a month, I'd say," the Scot replied. "Might be out on a book signin' campaign or somethin."
"His writin's been put on hold, sir," Valerio chimed in. "Doubt he'd be book signing for no reason..."
"Did he happen to say anything to you about where he was headed?" Laura asked Patrick.
"I'm afraid he ain't said a word to anyone on where he went, lassy. Just up an vanished. Though, if I didn't know any better I'd say he got an official letter from somewhere: rather fancy owl stopped off a letter at one point right before he left."
"All right. Well, grazie, Patrick. I'll just have to write him, I guess..." Laura stated and re-locked her ex's house back up. Replacing the hood of her cloak to its former place atop her head, she led the youngsters back down the now-cleared-off walkway.
"Where could Dad have gone?" Valerio asked as he watched Patrick meander back to his own cottage some distance from his father's home. "He wouldn't just up and leave, would he?" He was clearly crestfallen at Ethan's absence.
"Valerio, sweetie, I honestly don't know," Laura repeated for what felt like the fifth time already. "How about the four of us owl him and we'll find out from there, okay?"
"Mama... when are we going to Hogwarts? Like you promised?" Erica asked, disappointed she wasn't able to see her father, but excited by this prospect at the same time. She and Heather were to be going to one of the magical schools come next year.
"How about tomorrow, depending on how Ma-ma feels?" Laura suggested, waiting to receive her daughters' replies of "Alright," before apparating the lot of them back home. This trip had been a complete waste of time and energy.......
Ethan was going to be receiving a howler very soon if she didn't find him before the week was out. And even then, Laura wasn't so sure her anger will have dissipated enough not to send one. | |
