New Year's Eve Party at some random Hall at the Ministry

Diana was feeling rather peculiar at the moment and she didn't really know why.

Darien noticed a familiar face amongst the crowd and tried to dodge.

It didn't work.

Reginald snagged his son's arm and noticed Diana.

"Diana...Darien. How are you?" He directed this question mainly at Diana.

"We're rather well, thank you. And you Mr. Vaight?" Diana said cordially.

"Oh, the usual." Reginald smiled, a simpering cringeworthy grin.

Darien rolled his eyes at Diana behind his father's back.

Diana couldn't help herself from laughing but disguised it as a cough.

"Yes, that's good to know." She choked out.

Reginald glanced at Darien who composed his face into neutral again.

"So, what calls you here? Shouldn't you be at home...?" He aimed this particular criticism at his son.

"It is New Year's Eve Vaight." Ferderico Casillas appeared with his wife. "It's only natural that these two would be out."

"Hello Abuelo," Diana said cordially as well. She kissed him on either cheek and did the same for her grandmother.

Darien smiled awkwardly.

"I was merely wondering if it was suitable for Diana to be out given her condition." Reginald continued smoothly, iron eating into his tone.

"She's pregnant, not cancerous..." Darien muttered, too low for anyone to hear.

"Give her a break Vaight," Ferderico said glaring. "Don't tell me you actually care about a Casillas now."

Reginald glared. "I would hardly bother telling you anything. I don't have the time to waste in explanation."

Both Diana and Lucia sighed. "I'll go get us some drinks." Lucia whispered to Diana moving away.

"Oh yes of course, because you are a very busy man." Ferderico said sarcastically.

Darien grimaced apologetically at most people in the vicinity.

"As it happens, I am. Not that I would expect you to comprehend what that entails." Reginald sneered back.

"As a matter of fact, the wine business is such that it does not need my constant attention in order to make a profit. I am an old man, my son has taken it over." Ferderico replied. "What is it you do again Vaight?"

"Money matters." Reginald waved a hand. "Hardly anything of interest to you."

"I am sure that provides a... eh, shall we say sufficient amount of income for your family." Ferderico said. "What is it you do again, Durwood?"

"Darien," Diana corrected.

"That's what I said." Ferderico replied.

Reginald glowered. "As I'm sure growing fruit does for yours."

"I run a Quidditch store, and play it part-time in the minor leagues." Darien's voice was proud.

"I see," Ferderico said. It was apparent in his tone that he did not approve. "Does that store require long hours? Hours you spend away from your wife?"

"There's no point staying at work while there's no customers." Darien's tone grew icy.

"I don't enjoy spending time away from my wife."

"I am sure," Ferderico said sarcastically. "Truly are your father's son."

Reginald and Darien exchanged a look, and each noticed the other's face was briefly adorned with revulsion.

Adjusting their expressions, both glared at Ferderico.

Darien attempted a sickly smile. "Why thank you."

"Indeed." Ferderico replied.

Lucia returned. Gave Ferderico a wine glass. She then noticed Diana. "Are you all right?"

"Yes, I'm just..." She grabbed her belly as shock of pain shot through her.

Darien frowned and darted to Diana's side.

"What's wrong, love?"

"I don't..." Another shock of pain.

When she could breath again she replied. "I think it's the ba..." and yet another.

Darien's eyes widened. "The baby?! But...But...it's not time!"

He panicked for a second, and slung her arm over his shoulder. "We should get to the hospital! I'll carry you to the car."

Not able to speak because of the waves of pain, Diana nodded and put her weight on him. "Darien, I think he's com - " Another shock of pain.
