Once Upon A December

Eglantine sat beside the infant's bassinet, watching the small babe sleep peacefully. Rossalyn McConn was indeed one of the loveliest infants she had ever seen, although she was probably biased due to the fact the little girl was her granddaughter. A faint coo wafted up from the tiny baby and she smiled as large alert eyes looked up at her.

"Jemand wach ist..." (Someone is awake) Eglantine murmured, gently stroking Rossa's soft cheek. "Mein kleiner Engel." (My little angel) A soft whimper followed the coo and Eglantine chuckled faintly as she lifted Rossa from the bassinet and leaned back into the rocking chair with her nestled against her shoulder and chest. "Ärgern Sie sich nicht..." (Do not fret (worry))

Softly humming, she rocked Rossa until the soft whimpering ceased.
"There, all is well and look at how pretty your sweet eyes are." Eglantine whispered, as if sharing a secret with the babe. "Did you know that I love you, sweet rose? And forever I will have that love."

Rossa stared up at Eglantine with a baby's innocent smile and wide eyes.
Gently humming, Eglantine began to sing to her granddaughter, stroking her wispy hair as she laid her to rest in the crook of her arm.

"Dancing bears
Painted wings
Things you'll almost remember,
And a song someone sings
once upon a december

Someone holds you safe and warm,
Horses prance through a silver storm,
Figures dancing gracefully,
across your memory..."

She continued to hum, closing her eyes. A small tear leaked from behind the eye's lid and ran down her pale cheek, falling to wet Rossa's forehead.
"You are a blessed child, rose of light. Believe me."
