Parent Trap Part 1

"That's funny." Adelina smiled. "He hasn't told me anything about you."

She then returned her gaze to her plate and continued eating.

Armando coughed the drink he was glupping on. "You're right, I'm sorry Adriana, I just didn't know how to tell you..."

Adelina smiled sweetly. "Of course not Dad." She drank some of her own drink.

She then resumed eating.

Armando sighed. He needed to talk to Adriana later alone. But for now, Tina was here and she was a guest.

"Tina can speak four languages did you know? And she's friends with the Seeker of the Holy-Head Harpies."

"No I didn't. As I said before, I know very little about Tina." Adelina smiled at Tina. "I'm sure your friend must be a fascinating person."

Her gaze flickered back to her plate as she resumed eating.

Armando gave up. He had hoped that they struck a conversation but... that was clearly failing.

"How was your day Tina?"

"Wonderful," she answered, "I got that..." and they started to talk about Tina's wonderful day.

Adelina contemplated her next move.

Spill drink? Flick food? Childish pranks occured to her, but she decided against them. She didn't want Dad to side with Tina over her.

Instead, she opted to not say another word, focusing on eating.

Soon they finished Dinner and to Armando's disappointment, Adriana and Tina still hadn't become friends.

He decided to talk to his daughter later as he kissed Tina good night. "I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Yes," Tina winkled and to Adelina, she said. "It was nice meeting you."

"Nice meeting you too." Adelina's voice lacked sincerity, but she smiled...although that also lacked sincerity.

Tina left and Armando turned to his daughter.

Adelina placed her cutlery on her plate with great deliberation.

"Great dinner dad." She remarked, taking her plate through to the kitchen sink.

"Listen Adriana, I know you're angry... and I should have told you earlier..." Armando started.

"I'm not angry." Adelina replied.

"But how serious are you...both?" She watched her father cautiously.

Armando looked at her sheepishly. "I don't know what to say..."

"...How bout you answer the question?" Adelina turned to face her father directly.

"Are you going to marry her?" At this point her gaze became a glare, for a split second. Adelina wanted her parents back together.

It's not fair! Other parents stick together! Other parents get married! Their mums don't end up as hermits! And their father do not date! Her mind ranted, furious at the prospect of the plans to get their parents back together had already failed.

"I don't know," Armando said truthfully. "But she is important to me. Marriage is still out of the question."

Adelina relaxed slightly.

"...Was Mum important to you?"

Armando's eyes turned clouded, as it did whenever Adriana asked a question about her mother. "Of course she was."

"You never talk about her though." Adelina turned away. "Why?"

Armando massaged his temple. "It was a tough time... that's all."

"Why?" Adelina persisted. "Why was it a tough time? You don't think it's tough growing up without any idea about one of your parents?"

Armando blinked at his daughter's sudden outburst. "You don't understand Adriana... it's..." he paused to find a word, "complicated."

Adelina realised how close she was to blowing her cover.

"...Please Dad...I just want to know." She lowered her voice to barely above a whisper.

"I'm sorry Adriana..." Armando said sternly. "But I can't tell you. It is for your own good."

So he thought it was, after all, they were supposed to be Slayers. It would not do to find that one's mother was actually what you were taught to kill.

"Can you tell Tina?" Adelina snapped. "Why am I the only one who can't know about any of this? I need to have two parents!" ((lol...leaving it open for parent trap moment.))

She felt her anger mount as the feeling of life's unfairness swamped her.

It was unfair she'd not known her father before now.
It was unfair that both she and Adriana had no idea why they split up.
It was unfair that her father was dating!
