Description: Ethan stands at an unremarkable five foot seven and has a middling build. His often disheveled, naturally yellow-blond hair is dyed brown in areas, though his eyebrows and the stubble of mustache and beard contain darker hued hair than that upon his head. His nose is pointed and only slightly curves downward in the very beginning of a hook. Ethan’s jaw is squared; his chin is a soft-curved point. Dark-irised eyes, anywhere from a dark chocolate brown to onyx black, are almost always framed by a pair of glasses.
As the writer that doesn’t have any immediate travel needs, one will often see Ethan dressed in what he’d gone to bed in, or some other form of casual wear. This can vary from sweatpants to robes-only. Socks and slippers usually adorn his feet with this attire.
The Herbologist within Ethan is a bit more professionally prepared for what the day will bring. Open robes often reveal a shirt-and-trousers outfit underneath, with the pants either being dark brown to hide the dirt or more along the lines of shorts. Depending on the weather, he is likely to be seen wearing sandals, sneakers, or even boots.
Personality-wise, expect Ethan to be a regular chatterbox as he is rather long-winded and can be a bit passionate about what he’s discussing. He is also slightly eccentric and has the potential to be rather moody when interrupted during a “crucial moment” of whatever project he has going. He has a bit of a mad-scientist aura about him at times.
When perfectly calm he has a soft, throaty kind of voice and tends to pick up on accents rather quickly without realizing he’s doing it. In the event that Ethan is either animated or agitated, expect the whisper to vanish and be replaced with a distinctly raised voice that sounds like a gravelly tenor. ((Or, to make this even easier, lol: he
looks like Johnny Depp, and he
sounds like Johnny Depp. xD))
History: Ethan was born to parents Myrtle and Rowan Addams on June 9, 1979 in the state of Virgina. He was raised as an only child and thus learned to find things to do by himself. At a very young age he had a fascination with plants and what could be done with them. All in all he had a good childhood, despite the fact that his family moved from place to place – more like country to country – every few years. The longest childhood residence was in Sidney, Australia, for a grand total of about six years. Unfortunately, there were problems behind the scenes that caused his parents to divorce shortly after he turned 9 years old. Myrtle won custody of her son in a legal battle with her husband, though the boy was too young at the time to understand.
Ethan was arranged to go to Hogwarts despite being so far away from the United Kingdom, and was sorted into Ravenclaw House. His strongest suit academically was Herbology, unsurprisingly. As a teenager he fought briefly in the Battle of Hogwarts, but was severely injured early into the fight. He still has a few nasty scars from being hit by some well-placed curses. Upon finishing his schooling in the 1997-98 school year, and recovering from his injuries, he declared his occupation as a full-time herbologist and part-time writer.
In the year 2000, on Halloween of all evenings, Ethan married his wife, Laura Amello. They decided to move from Myrtle’s home in Virginia to a mountainous, rural part of Pennsylvania. The scenery and bliss of married life allowed Ethan to finish and submit his first book for publishing in 2002, which was due to hit bookstores in August of the following year. By this time, however, as per habit, Ethan had relocated with Laura to Ireland in early July. The book earns a lot of fame in America and the UK, inspiring Ethan to write an entire series of fiction novels. During moments of writer’s block on the story, he would often submit articles for different herbological or potioneering publications. During the next four years Ethan went through alternating inspirational and block phases, but managed to add two more books to the budding series he’d created.
The late hours of June 13, 2008, and the early minutes of the next day will always be two of the brightest moments in Ethan’s life. This is because his twin daughters were born: Erica, at 11:45 pm on the thirteenth; and Heather, approximately a half an hour later at 12:15 am. A son, Valerio, followed a two years and a couple of months after.
Things started going downhill in May of 2012, when both Laura and Ethan caught the other in the middle of an affair. Laura’s boyfriend, Jason Groves, was a fellow herbologist and one of Ethan's friends - now a former acquaintance. Ethan’s extramarital partner was none other than his literary agent, Rose Cantrell. Needless to say, the tension on Ethan’s end was so tangible one could cut it with a knife. By September, Laura gave Ethan a formal request for a divorce, to which he complies with in realization that his attitude and continued on-and-off affair with Rose both are not helping matters. Despite it being far too late to mend things, he breaks up with Rose and begins seeking a new literary agent. Around New Year’s, the divorce is finalized and Laura is given custody of the kids, half of Ethan's wealth acquired as a novelist (a substantial sum but nothing boast-worthy), and ownership of their “winter home” in PA, America.
Ethan continued to write, churning out more novels after acquiring new literary agent Chrysanta Trengrove. Because he has visitation rights with his children, he is notified when Laura relocates her family to France. Deciding there were too many memories in the house he was living in, Ethan decides to relocate to the island of Tiree, in Scotland. With the exception of company he knows and cares for, Ethan lives in the lifestyle similar to a hermit for several months: living off the land, and going about his own business. Eventually he gets to know the fellow wizarding crofters about the island, and joins the community in his own eccentric way. It is during the three years that, aside from having plenty of time to submit one book per year, that Ethan begins experimenting with creating hybridized plants. With his Scottish island friends, he began work on a publication known as Hybrid that focuses on “theories” for combining the attributes of different plants.
What isn’t that well publicized is that Ethan has a bit of the “mad-scientist-gene,” and has taken up the hobby of attempting to create successful hybrid plants instead of just theorizing – without approval from the Ministry. He took this up officially in the spring of 2017, after making an announcement some months earlier that the series he’s authoring is going to be put on hold. However, he refuses to say why that is so. The only reason he is willing to give is that, “I want to pursue some other interests; interests which will most certainly be detrimental to any literary progress I might make. So, to ensure that you are not all waiting on tap-dancing pins and needles for the next installment, let me just say that I am going on a kind of sabbatical for an undetermined amount of time. For readers of Hybrid magazine, we will have available an option open to discuss the series, and what you think will happen next - you won't want to miss the next issue!”
The following year, though his secret project is still underway and very much a secret, Ethan has applied for the position of Herbology Professor. In this way he is still within a kind of public view, but not required to fulfill the role of literary superstar and bookstore semi-main attraction. In addition, he also intends to appeal to the Headmistress to be made Head of Ravenclaw House.
