Name: Sevastyan Kaminski

Physical & Clothing Description: Sevastyan stands just a half an inch shy of six feet tall with a stocky, somewhat well-muscled build reminiscent in part of an athlete. Most of his features are either long, thick, or have the appearance of a kind of rigidity. His legs are a little longer than his muscular arms, with his torso being a bit shorter than that. Both hands are heavily calloused, with fleshy palms and fingers that are neither long nor stubby. His face is handsome, gaunt, and makes one think of a sculpture. Heavy eyebrows steadily rest above distinctively large steel blue-gray eyes. Despite the coldish color of the irises, his gaze is congenial without appearing overly friendly. Between these optical organs is the bridge of a straight, thick nose that tapers outward only slightly at the nostrils. High cheekbones set the scene for a pleasing gauntness about his face. A circular beard (with accompanying mustache) of dark brown coloring encompasses the thin lips and strong chin, but the rest of his strong, squared jaw line remains clean-shaven. Slightly lighter, medium brown hair with a faint hint of red is always tied back into a very short ponytail. Should anyone succeed in getting him to smile (which really doesn’t take too awful much effort), one may just find a gentleness that lay beneath the seemingly hard-as-granite exterior.

It should be noted that because Sevastyan’s family lived in an area with Russian and German speakers that he has a bit of an accent he can’t quite get rid of which sounds like an intricate blend of the two. The most obvious accentuation in his mode of speech occurs when he involuntarily switches a ‘w’ with a ‘v’ since the letter ‘w’ doesn’t exist in the Russian language. The timbre of Sevastyan’s voice reminds one of a well-played bassoon: a musical baritone with the potential for a tenor singing voice. Getting him to sing may prove to be a bit more difficult than coaxing him to smile.

In terms of wardrobe, Sevastyan has a bit of variety in his clothes but the style is basically the same. When teaching or conducting business of a magical sort he is often seen wearing navy blue slacks and a crimson Nehru jacket-like top (with a pale blue tanktop beneath serving as an undershirt), and finally a robe of burgundy with flared sleeve cuffs, fur-lined lapels, and a mandarin collar that is slightly taller than on the aforementioned jacket but left open rather than fastened closed. The Nehru jacket’s buttons are more toward his right side rather than straight down the middle, enhancing the already Asiatic look. His preferred colors are deep or bright reds, navy blue, hunter green and black. On rare occasion his robes are lined with fur on the entire inside for to provide extra warmth. No matter what occasion he’s dressing for, Sevastyan is almost never seen in public without his trademark Doc Martens. The raven-colored leather of these boots seems to see a good polishing at least thrice a week. Some would say he has a stylishly conservative taste in wizarding apparel.

When he doesn’t have to worry about looking professional, Sevastyan is as happy as a clam to dress in tee shirts and bellbottomed jeans. Most often the tee shirt has some sort of design on it, and the dark denim of his jeans is clearly worn and preferred that way – the evidence culminating in the fact that at least one of the knees has a wide slit-like horizontal “tear”. In colder weather, it would not be uncommon to see him with a sweater of some kind. Once again the Doc Marten boots make their presence known, but dressing in this manner can often lead him to being misidentified as a student dressed as a Muggle.

During the winter, Sevastyan adds two more items to his apparel. First is a fur-lined, hooded burgundy cloak for outdoor wear. For the most part it is unadorned with the exception of a silver clasp in a design reminiscent of a Celtic knot. The hem of the cloak halts at around mid-shin. His other item of choice is a blast from the past: an ushanka, or fur hat with ear flaps one can either tie up or leave down, that he wore whilst attending Durmstrang. Even those who did not attend that particular institute can tell this fact because the school’s symbol is embroidered in a one and a half inch square located on the brim. The hat’s contrasting fur colors are dark gray and a rich brown, though a small tassel at the top center is an attention-getting scarlet.

Finally we arrive to the miscellaneous accessories. On his left (Sevastyan is left handed/ambidexterous) is a dressy-looking wristwatch put out by Breitling that not only tells the time but also indicates the date and phases of the moon. Occasionally one may see him with a staff of sandalwood that was made part of Durmstrang’s school “uniform,” but a much more common sight would be to see him wielding a wand of about ten and one-quarter inches in length made from black walnut wood (dragon heartstring core).


History: Sevastyan comes from mixed blood: the pure-blooded Kaminski line, and the Sokolovs, who are best classified as Half-blooded. The Kaminski family was well into the Dark Arts, while the Sokolovs were very much neutral in their dealings with either side of any magical conflict. Though his father’s side did not exactly leap at the opportunity to serve the Dark Lords of history, they had very similar ideals. Neither rich nor poor, the original Kaminski estate was in the style of a dacha, or cottage, and only small in size due to Soviet limitations. By the time Sevastyan was born, however, the dacha had expanded to the size of a mansion, and the family had risen to moderate-elite status.

The magical community of Saratov, in southern Russia, is very much different from its muggle counterpart but there are also some similarities as well. First and foremost, Saratov was considered a “closed off” area that did not allow foreigners until 1991. Because of international relations at the time, so too did the magical half of Saratov close its floo network and refused to allow citizens from other countries until that time. Modern (Wizarding) Saratov is now a bustling hub of activity: with a large Market, a heritage museum, potioneering center, an extensive library with everything from children’s books to references on many magical trades; and its floo network, which is the third-largest in all of Russia. The Kaminski and Sokolov families found little reason to leave the area, and thus aside from vacations abroad neither family has lived anywhere else.

Maksim Kaminski was arranged to marry Praskovya Sokolov on his twenty-seventh birthday. Praskovya had only just reached twenty-three. The Kaminskis weren’t all that enthused about a half-blood staining their pureblood reputation, only allowing the union because the other purebloods in the immediate area were either family or distant relations with poor reputations. Plenty of Muggles, Mudbloods, and a few squibs were here and there but out of the question. Settling for a half-blood bride for their son was one of the most logical choices they made. Initially, Praskovya could barely tolerate Maksim and often left him to his varied delving into the darker aspects of magic. She didn’t approve of it, being a graduate from Beauxbatons as opposed to Durmstrang (because she was half-blood – witch mother, muggle-born wizard father) and not having so much as laid a finger on such evil practices. However, as her love slowly grew for Maksim, so did her support and interest in what exactly occupied so much of his time. Eventually, Maksim found his way into potioneering and in Russian Wizarding Law. Praskovya did not have an occupation for most of her early married life, only taking on a job as a writer after her first son, Sevastyan, was born. On the side, once Sevastyan became an adult, she had a lucrative trade in Dark Items going from the basement of the expansive Kaminski Dacha (Mansion).

Sevastyan was born in the year 1984, at the Zolnerovich Medical Clinic for Magical Afflictions and Accidents, two and a half weeks premature. It was a happy time for the couple, both of whom wished for a moderate to large family. They were blessed with two more children years later: Grigoriy, when Sevastyan was a little over five years; and Svetlana, two weeks before Sevastyan turned thirteen. Grigoriy was about seven when his baby sister was born.

Growing up in the Kaminski home was not exactly bad, but there were a lot of things lying about that children would have done best not to go near at all. Maksim learned this rather quickly, and made fortifications to secure all magical paraphernalia of the darker flavors from curious youngsters. Maksim was a very strict father who became a loyal Death Eater within Lord Voldemort’s ranks. Often times he was not present, but it was less noticeable when Sevastyan was off at Durmstrang Institute. Unlike the Sokolov family, all three children attended Durmstrang.

As the oldest child of the family, it seemed as though Sevastyan tended to be reprimanded the most by his parents, because he was to be Grigoriy and Svetlana’s role model. Grigoriy was the son that could do no wrong no matter how blatant; his current meanderings through the darker magical arts and his parents’ inability to comprehend the loathing between the two brothers being raw proof of that statement. Svetlana exists outside of the sibling rivalry, and was the most spoiled. Initially, after Durmstrang, Grigoriy and Sevastyan went into business together, studying the Dark Arts in more than just the theoretical lessons they’d been instructed on as students. Where Sevastyan was more academic in his ventures, Grigoriy was a bit more liberal with his accumulated knowledge and actively sought to do harm. That doesn’t mean, however, that Sevastyan was a figurative angel, because he isn’t. At the time, though, it didn’t really matter what branch of magic it was: if it did something sinister it grabbed their attention. Due to their father’s influence they were able to keep a fairly clean record. Svetlana, on the other hand, took additional study to become a Healer.

When the Dark Lord Voldemort returned in 1995, Grigoriy wanted to expand the family business and become a full-fledged Death Eater like his father. Sevastyan refused to make a concrete decision for his part, until his brother attempted to recruit their cousin, Nikolai Kaminski, in early 1997. However the Order of the Phoenix had gotten to Nikolai first, and for this the wizard was killed in cold blood the moment it was discovered. It was this senseless destruction and little regard for life that turned Sevastyan from any pursuit of further knowledge about the Dark Arts except for ways to defend against them. Needless to say, shortly after he refused to continue the business he and Grigoriy had going, relations with his brother began to strain and then broke completely. As a result, each considers the other to be a bitter enemy. In a way Sevastyan feels responsible for Nikolai’s death even though the one truly to blame was Grigoriy, who wouldn’t take such a burden anyway. It is for this reason that Sevastyan is now so overprotective of where in life Svetlana thinks she’s going.

While secretly tracking the comings and goings of his brother (the better to keep him from sinking his deceitful “talons” into Svetlana’s life), and having tracked the man down in Italy, Sevastyan met and eventually fell in love with one Roxane Bellerose, a witch born in Paris, France. She was on vacation, and had quite literally run into Sevastyan on the street. They traveled together from that point on: the target he was chasing happening to coincide with Roxane’s brief tour of the world. A year later, Sevastyan found a job as a teacher in one of the lesser-known magical schools. It was equivalent to Hogwarts’ potions professor. Roxane and he were both enamored with the other, and she had agreed to his marriage proposal. At this time Praskovya’s business in buying and selling dark magical items is already well on its way, though Sevastyan has absolutely no idea. Though he suspects his mother is indeed up to something of that nature he is hesitant to confront her about it, for he had done the same exact thing.

However, much quicker than Sevastyan had realized, the relationship between him and Roxane crumbled due to several little things that had begun once he became a teacher. First and foremost on Roxane’s list was that she wanted to travel, but Sevastyan didn’t want to bother trying to acquire a substitute instructor, knowing that “just because” would not be a suitable reason to take time off. For Sevastyan, it was that Roxane didn’t want to have children that made him re-evaluate the situation. Roxane was the first to call their engagement off. At first, both thought that more time was needed. Roxane’s love of travel clearly won out over her love for Sevastyan in the end. They separated on good terms.

At present Sevastyan has taken up the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, his dark past – for the most part – behind him.

It's not much - just the name, a bit of a blurb about them, and some extra stuff I wanted to include!


Boris Miroslavich Kaminski ~ Born July 13, 2001; age 17
Simply put, Boris is the ego that Sevastyan never hopes to regain. He is haughty and proud, but yet worries about saving his own skin. He’d do well in Slytherin, as his ambition (all that arrogance aside) tends to get in the way of a lot. Though Boris tries to boast to Sevastyan, the older Kaminski doesn’t buy into anything the kid says when it’s clear he’s on his high horse. Sevastyan sees a lot of his younger self in Boris, which doesn’t help matters much. One can expect Sevastyan to be seemingly uncharacteristically cold to Boris. What those just starting to get to know him don’t realize is that Sevastyan used to act this way towards everyone, not just his relatives.

Boris has brown eyes and short black hair styled in a faux hawk. His face is small and starting to turn gaunt – a dominant gene in the family. The young man stands five feet, eleven inches.

He does not at present have a celebrity representation for his teenage self.

Things Boris is most known for: “playing rough,” boasting, & mischievous behavior of various intention. He is also Nicolas Casillas' best friend from Durmstrang. Boris and Nicolas co-founded the Conquistadors, a Marauder-esque clique of seven young men. Though, after Nick transferred to Hogwarts and the death of "double agent" Gleb/Jake (Darien Vaight's best friend), the group is now down to 5 and looking for replacements. The Conquistadors are still up in arms against another clique that had been founded by Darien Vaight before he too transferred to Hogwarts.

Maksim Zakharovich Kaminski ~ Born March 24, 1965
Maksim and Sevastyan are not on the best of terms, due to the fact that Grigoriy is the family "golden boy" and has always had the better end of the deal since he came along. Their present relationship is... strained, and will likely only become moreso since a cunning Malfoy interfered in the court case regarding the death of Kiara's ex-husband on school property.

Praskovya Nestorovna Kaminskaya (Praskovya Kaminski) ~ Born August 12, 1968
On the outside, Praskovya is the oft clichéd mother that wants nothing more than to see her children married off and living a healthy, happily married life. Beneath the surface, however, is a dark passion years in the making that only her husband is truly aware of…

She wears an aristocratic dress and velvet over-robes with wide, flaring sleeves that reach the ground. Her speech is additionally inflected with a rolling 'r' of varying lengths whenever she uses the letter.

Grigoriy Maksimovich Kaminski ~ Born June 6, 1989; age 29
Grigoriy is the golden boy of the three children fathered by Maksim Kaminksi. In a nutshell he is Sevastyan's presently polar opposite, though they were very much alike as children. The only difference was that Grigoriy intentionally and repeatedly sought to do harm. Any meeting between him and Sevastyan will result in some unfriendly words and spells, to be sure.


Svetlana Maksimovna Kaminskaya (Sevetlana Kaminski) ~ Born February 28, 1996; age 22
Svetlana, affectionately referred to as "Sveta" by her family, is a young witch currently in the employ of Zolnerovich Clinic of Magical Accidents and Afflictions, in Russia. She has had an interest in potions since a very young age, and even "helped" discover that Sevastyan was allergic to valerian root in his early years.

Kazimir Bogdanovich Orlov; Durmstrang Headmaster ~ Born October 12, 1948; age 70
Kazimir is an elderly wizard that looks 10 years older but acts a good 20 years younger than his actual age. He has an odd way of thinking, is more than just a little bit of a control freak, and has a completely twisted idea of loyalty. Confrontational and sensitive about the pronunciation of his name because it sounds close to the textile 'Cashmere' wool, he is very much a wild card when he's in the room. On the flipside, he has the potential to be nice, even if it is more or less a mask that covers up the fact that he fully trusts absolutely no one.

Appearance: Kazimir has dark brown, almost black eyes and a hooked nose, with a short dark blond hairstyle that isn't quite a buzz cut but is very close. His face is small and gaunt, and many have likened him to an eagle or hawk due to his watchfulness. Kazimir stands six foot three, with broad shoulders and a middling weight.

Both his wand and the mostly ceremonial staff are made of ebony wood. A pair of runespoor fangs make up his wand's core.

No, he is not related to the Kaminskis in any way, other than considering Sevastyan a traitor and Boris his current prize pupil.
