Kiara examined the compass that brought Owain to their world, and how to get him home again… and as much as she didn’t want to think this way, the sooner the better. It was amazing how fast the child was made his way into her heart.. The moment he first hugged her while crying out his confusion, he had her then hook line and sinker…
Not that that was a bad thing, he was a sweet child in need of someone to be there for him… and she was more than happy to be there. However he had to go back to his world eventually and would most likely never come back.. how cruelly ironic the universe was, that she must send a child she loves back home where she couldn’t follow, and he must leave the mother he always wanted to have. She swallowed as she traced the runes that encircled the object feeling the traces of powerful magic in them.
She believed it was possible to send Owain back the way he came, that was her theory anyway… it was just as likely they might send him to a entirely different universe instead. This of course wasn’t what they wanted to happen to the boy, there was no telling what he might encounter in another universe where there other selves were less friendly.. or the world was in chaos it was dangerous and reckless.
Kiara sighed as she put her focus back on figuring out how the compass worked writing down all the symbols and runes as well as the hand, an arrow that was pointing to one symbol in particular. She didn’t dare move it as she feared it might reactivate it again.
From what she could tell the object was very unstable magically wise. If fully charged and in inexperienced hands like Owain, it would be set off and take it carrier to a randomly chosen universe. The compass needed someone strong enough to control it to use it properly. That was when the compass had enough magic to be able to work to begin with.. it was hard to tell if the magic charged it’s self over time or someone of power had to do it. It quite possible had been both but it was hard to tell..
Also from what she could translate of the old runes, things needed to be in balance of the universe's, meaning if you exist in one universe your counter-part from another should not visit it.. for it would throw this world off balance, causing who knows what to happen.
Leaning back in her chair she looked up at the clock that showed it was well passed dinner time.. She sighed with a smile on her face imagining Eglantine and Horatio marching up to her office to make sure she ate something. Putting her notes on the compass into a safe spot and carefully picked up the object as she headed out of her office wondering if Owain would forgive her for missing dinner if she brought him something sweet for dessert and a promise she would play a game of chess with him before bed...
