The Altus Gnarus

The "Venerable, or Ancient, Wise" were/are a group of hermit-like wizards who formed a researching group in 1883. Founded by ten wizards all seeking an escape from society in general, they set a standard for their independent researching and "rented" a castle somewhere in Northern Europe. The location is protected by several unknown spells.

The Members of the Altus Gnarus are few, but they are/were all great wizards of their time.

Any member 100 and above wears a dragon tattoo somewhere on his body. The designs, locations and sizes differ according to member.

Signature spell: Chase calls his spell the Heartsong. There are no particular words, but the non-lexical vocables used sound very much like a song. His preferred classical element is air, and the intention or emotion of the caster affects the results. Only one emotion may manifest per casting, and each cast weakens the stamina of the caster depending on the strength of the spell:
Love: Protection and/or Healing. In extreme cases that involve the caster’s probable death, the target is often bestowed with a Heartweave, which continues to protect even after the caster’s passing.
Hostility: Tornado-like attack where anyone in the center is safe but those caught in the whirlwind end up injured as if with multiple cuts of varying severity, but no amputation. This attacking spell is non-lethal.
Compassion: Healing (looks like wisps of cloud assemble to heal the wound). Cannot resurrect the dead, but with the proper energy it can help those that are dying, at a cost to the caster’s own health for a given amount of time (from mere days to the remainder of caster’s life...).
Fear / Hope: Protection shield. Looks like one is on the inside of a crystal ball looking out, rather than on the outside looking in.
Calm: Telepathy or reduces the emotional distress of another. The latter requires touch or, at the very least, eye contact.
