| Priori Incantatem is called "the reverse-spell effect." Thus it can be asumed that it is actually not a spell, but simply an effect that may occur. Priori Incantatem can occur when two wands which share the same source for their cores are forced to compete in combat. It can also be induced by analytical spells, like an extension of the Prior Incantato spell.
During a wand duel, a simultaneous spellcasting by both parties will trigger an effect where both wands are linked through a golden thread of energy. The two wand holders then compete in a battle of wills, in which the loser's wand is forced to display in ghostly form the spells which had been cast by said wand. | |

| Priori Incantatum is not a spell, but a 'happening'. This can happen when 2 wands whose cores are the same meet.
The wand that is losing the duel has to show the spells performed before.

| No, no, not the cores are the same. The cores have the same source. In Harry and Tom's case, it was that their cores came from the same pheonix. If either Harry or Tom's Pheonix feather had been from a different pheonix, Priori Incantatum would not have occured. | |

| It can be when two wands who share a core substance are forced to fight, but if another wand is placed to the tip of a wand (see GoF, with Barty Crouch finding out if Harry's wand cast the spell), it can also be used to see a previous spell. | |

| No, that's the Prior Incantato spell. However, you're not the first to confuse them, since the words of the two are only slightly different from each other.
Prior Incantato.
