((first crazy fool fighting trolls:Ana Vaight...lol))

Ana breathed in deeply, pushing all her unecessary thoughts to the very back of her mind.
The thoughts of all the trouble she was in, how angry her father was, the possiblity she would die, her missing sock...It was all pushed away.
She calmly pulled her wand out of her pocket and held it tightly. She was nervous, and determined not to let it show.
This is simple, she told herself. Just beat up a couple of trolls and break into the cave. Easy.
Yeah, on a muggle computer game maybe. Or in a book. Everything was simple then.
This wasn't.
She was risking her own neck. No extra lives, no second chances.
Her mind was spinning, trying to plan ahead.
It's hard to plan ahead when you've got to carry out that plan in about a minute, Ana observed as she racked her brains. Think, think, think... Must think of a plan...
She just had to fight her way past the two trolls.
Both at once.
Ana squashed her fear down, replacing it with an air of confidence.
Okay...Planning time...

Ana swallowed, hard.
Those trolls were huge. Twelve foot tall?! She wasn't even half their size.
She forced her muscles to relax.
Closing her eyes briefly, she stepped out into the sunlight.
The noise and light hit her almost at the same time.
The boiling glare of the sun glanced off everything, both illuminating and casting into shade. The screams and yells of the crowd pounded on her eardrums, the clamour making individual shouts inaudible.

Which was just as well, as she doubted many would be friendly to the underage Slytherin champion.
A strange sense of calm settled over her as she walked out into the arena. There was no turning back now, and the crowds died down as suspense silenced their screams.

Two giant grey trolls, looking like large boulders and with the same intellectual capacity and personality, were waiting for her.
Ana took a deep breath and raised her wand.
A gunshot sound was heard above the uneasy quiet of the arena.

The trolls' head tilted towards her, taking in the young teenager before them.
Ana winced inwardly. They were a lot taller from out here, and they hadn't been short to begin with...An idea sparked in her mind.
She smirked slightly and started to run forwards, her goal a large rock nearby which would give her better aim.
It was a good thing trolls were stupid. Any other predator would have been after her at once, and would doubtless have caught her fairly easily.
But the trolls had to stop and think about it.
Ana reached the base of the rock and started to scramble up it.
Unfortunantly, the larger troll was waiting. It made a strange grunting noise and swung it's club, smashing down on the top of the rock.
Ana screamed and her foot lost purchase on the rock, sliding down almost a foot. ((lol pun intended... Very Happy ))
She swore as her leg and arms were grazed by the rough surface. She pointed her wand at her head and muttered a spell.
"Cave inimicum."
She glanced down, and saw rock. It had worked.
She was camoflagued.
Now Ana was going to teach this troll a lesson.
She sleuthily clamboured to the top of the rock and pointed her wand at the nearest troll. The other had now lumbered over as well, to see what it's imbecilic friend was doing.
"Diminuendo!"
The troll shrank down to the size of a five-year old child. Ana snorted with laughter as it glanced around stupidly, no doubt wondering why everything else had got bigger.

She looked up just in time to hear the full-sized troll bellow with anger and swing an arm at the ledge she stood on.
Unfortunantly, she didn't manage to duck in time. She flew through the air and hit the floor about a metre and a half below.
Swearing, she stood up.
She removed the charm making her blend in with the surroundings and waited.
The troll turned it's thick skull in her direction and stomped towards her, club raised. She glanced down at the little troll, also heading towards her.
Immobulus. She thought, immboilising the mini troll...for the moment.
The larger beast was still advancing, club held high. It was about two metres away.
Calmly, Ana pointed her wand at it's chest.
"Ducklifors." ((Voldie's Ducks!))

A surprisingly large duck replaced the troll, the club remaining, for a moment, twelve feet in the air.
Then it fell.

Ana closed her eyes as the club thudded down on the giant duck, knocking it unconscious.
She warily opened her eyes again as both duck and club crashed down onto the floor.

One down, one to go.

She waved her wand once more, conjuring a small iron cage in front of the troll, paused in mid-run.
Ana positioned it carefully, and released the spell. Predictably, the troll ran straight into the cage and with another wave of her wand, the door locked and bolted itself.
The troll fought furiously, making a ridiculous amount of noise.

Ana rolled her eyes and immobolised it once more, then pointed her wand at the giant unconscious duck for good measure.
"Fera Verto."
The duck shape wavered and it turned into a water goblet.
Smirking more broadly, Ana dusted down her robes and began to walk across the arena to the cave.

When she reached the cave, she was suddenly aware of all the eyes watching her progress intently.
Alohomora, she cast non-verbally.
Unsurprisingly, it didn't work.

Ana flicked through her memory for any other unlocking charms, but found none.
Losing patience, she sidestepped round to the edge of the entrance, and the unprotected rock.
Closing her eyes for a moment, she concentrated and a bluebell flame burst out of the tip of her wand. Her eyes now open, she focused it on the rock and the flames leapt across the space, outlining a circle in the rocky wall.
She intensified the heat until it started to weaken the rock.
"Reducto!"
The rock smashed, becoming fragments, grains the size of sand.

Ana raised an arm to cover her face, but a small particle or two of dust got stuck in her eye.
She bit back a snarl and pretended nothing was wrong. She swiftly walked through the newly-formed gap and stopped, leaning against the wall.
Once Ana had removed the dust from her eye, she glanced around.

Where was this 'clue'?

Noticing a shine out of the corner of her right eye, she edged towards it.
A green gem glistened in a shaft of sunlight, dust particles spiralling and twisting all around it, the specks only visible in the golden light.
Ana slowly walked forwards, keeping her footing on the uneven ground.
Putting her wand back into her pocket, she noticed the gem start to glow blue.
Without thinking she leapt forwards and grabbed for it, just managing to touch it with a finger before she was jerked out of the arena and back into the sunlight...

The Task.....Mountain Trolls?! Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Task.....Mountain Trolls?!   The Task.....Mountain Trolls?! EmptyWed Jun 24, 2009 9:19 pm

Eleonore breathed in deeply as she approached the task assigned. She had to succeed; she had to come out on top. Beauxbatons was counting on her, France was counting on her. Not to mention her Mother was counting on her! No, failing was definitely not an option.

As chocolate eyes met three gigantic trolls, Eleonore inhaled sharply, fighting the urge to do as her instincts screamed and run away. Using all the self-control she could muster, forcing a smirk on her face. Who cares if she was really a nervous wreck? As long as everyone else thought this task would be no big deal for her, there would be no problem.

The Beauxbatons student's reverie quickly broke as one of the trolls struck at her with his club, missing her neck by mere inches, but conjuring enough force to knock her hard to the ground. Wincing, she picked herself up, ignoring the throbbing pain in her knees. Eleonore glanced at her opponents, calculating. She was half their size, and much more petite; therefore they would tire out faster than she would.

Eleonore smiled inwardly at her plan, giving herself a mental cheer before going for it. She made it about halfway to the cave before her "master genius plan" hit a kink: trolls could jump. Far A fact they were only too happy to demonstrate as one of the great brutes jumped at least seven feet in distance, ramming his club at Eleonore's side, sending her flying straight into a pile of rocks.

A grotesquely loud crunch filled the air, followed swiftly by an agonizing pain in Eleonore's arm. She gave a cry of pain as she looked aw her limb to see what had happened, immediately regretting the action: A bone in her left arm had broken completely, piercing through pale flesh and Beauxbaton Blue fabric in a gushy river of blood and agony.

The French girl gagged at the sight of her mangled arm, fighting the urge to vomit, the unbearable pain not helping at all. But as soon as she heard loud, crumbling footsteps, the pain evaporated, a gift from the adrenaline coursing through her.

Struggling to get to her feet, Eleonore ducked and blocked every attack she could, knowing that her stalling could only last so long. She wanted so badly to quit, runaway and seek medical attention for her now cold, numb arm. Yet the sound of Beauxbaton's cheers "Allez, allez" chimed strong and clear, like a stick prodding Eleonore to continue.

She took a moment, crouching behind a large boulder, mentally going through a list of spells to use: fire, water, air.... until an idea struck her. Cautiously, she stole a glance at the beasts whose stupidity prevented them from locating her. Clearly one of them was female, unless someone decided to stick the pink bow on it head for kicks. Praying it wasn't the latter, Eleonore shakily raised her hand. "L'amour flâne!" she cried out, aiming for the female troll.

A red figure in the form of an arrow and pink smoke struck and surrounded the female troll, soon entering the other two troll's nose, eyes and mouth. The three creatures stood still for a moment staring at each other until a golden light surrounded them. The two male trolls started arguing, fighting, bashing eac others heads with clubs, pushing and shoving, forgetting all about Eleonore.

The french teen sighed in relief as she scrambled towards the cave. "Bombardo Maxima!" she exclaimed, blasting it open. She scurried her way inside, nearly collapsing with returned pain and exhaustion as she reached for the clue. "remerciez Dieu, je l'ai fait..." she breathed out, clutching the clue to her chest.

The Task.....Mountain Trolls?! Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Task.....Mountain Trolls?!   The Task.....Mountain Trolls?! EmptyTue Jul 07, 2009 2:31 am

Kazimir was counting on him...
The Conquistadors were counting on him...
Inclusion into the Knights of Tartaros may await him after this is over...
Heck, the whole of Durmstrang counted on him!
Most of all: Boris wanted Sevastyan, his cousin, to finally acknowledge him as a man, instead of a boy.

The first thing Boris saw when he stepped out of the tent was a blinding ray of sun. He had been in the semi-darkness of the Champion’s Area for so long that his eyes needed to adjust to the brightness of day again. The Russian teen knew it wouldn’t be wise to linger, because certainly whatever awaited him wouldn’t take a time out just for him. Expect no mercy; give no mercy, he mused darkly and ducked behind a nearby rock.

The thing was, it didn’t feel like an ordinary rock... it even moved of its own accord...

It was a troll, reclined on the floor of the arena.

As the creature turned to see what had touched it, Boris barely felt the color drain from his face as he instantly reverted to his animagus form of a large Siberian Tiger and dashed away from it. By the fierce look in the animal’s eyes, Boris was just trying to put a safe distance between him and the slowly-rising creature. However there was one small – or perhaps not-so-small – problem with his plan:

He was headed straight for a second troll, who had been watching the goings-on stupidly until it spotted the bright orange feline headed its way. Boris skidded to a halt just as the troll raised it’s club, rolling out of the way like a dog commanded to ‘roll over’ mere seconds before a sickening crunch signaled the club’s contact with the rocky ground. The tiger immediately doubled back towards the other troll only to find that it, too, had a club raised in attack.

Vell, two can play this game! Boris shouted. However, the only thing the audience heard was an aggressive tiger’s roar. With that the large cat wove agilely between the feet of the trolls, confusing them. Because he was so much smaller and they so big, it would only be a matter of time before the trolls tired while Boris still had energy to spare. He didn’t dare to pause and look to see how the trolls were dealing with the confusion. By the thuds he heard, however, it sounded like the trolls were hitting each other with their clubs in an attempt to knock the other out of the way to reach him. The Russian would laugh at this after he was safely out of harm’s way. This was a combination of work and play, but right now he needed all of his wits in order to make it out of the arena alive.

And he knew it.

With a growl, Boris sunk his front claws into the weakest spot on a Mountain Troll: a small expanse of skin on the ankle, right between the joint. Dark gray troll’s blood seeped from the claws as he heard a monstrous, blood-curdling scream of pain from one of the monsters. He released the troll as soon as he noticed it was going down... Boris needed to get out of the immediate area, and quick.

However, he wasn’t quite quick enough: the aftershock of the troll’s fall caused the whole arena grounds to vibrate. Despite the feline grace of his form, Boris was tossed aside and subsequently rammed into a firm wall of rock. In his surprise, the boy reverted back to his human form. He had a feeling that this slip in concentration was a deadly mistake.

Suspicions were confirmed as the remaining troll reached forward, snatching up the young man by his legs and giving Boris a marvelous aerial view of the arena from some twelve feet into the air. The Russian shouted a very colorful phrase in his native tongue as he was hauled up by his legs, the troll’s grasp a bit too firm for his preference. Boris was more than peripherally aware of the fact that he could feel the bones in his legs bending. Despite the pain, the lad kept a firm hold on his wand. The troll brought the boy close to its face so it could look its prey dead in the eye...

“Vot are you looking at?!” Boris shouted in rasps, wondering just how long he could last like this. He didn’t really want to find out. The troll didn’t seem to like his tone, and thus gripped harder. A deep-voiced scream echoed through the arena as Boris felt as though every bone in both his legs were about to be turned to powder. Or something very close to it.

“SECTUMSEMPRA!!!!!” the Russian screamed, aiming his wand for the troll’s other hand. It seemed as though it put its club down now that it was clear its prey wasn’t going anywhere. Through the tears of pain, however, Boris’s aim was true: the tip of the index finger on the troll’s hand had been cut clean off. The troll’s scream of pain outdid Boris’s own, that much was certain.

Boris soon found himself free-falling from twelve feet in the air... much too high up to come out unscathed...

Before he could conjure some form of preventative measure from having all his weight hit the ground at this speed, Boris found himself once again in the clutches of a troll. The troll whom would surely want revenge for what he did to its ankle... thick fingers easily wrapped all the way around his torso, hips, and legs. One arm was also caught in the troll’s grip – but it wasn’t the one holding his only chance for escape. Oh, no: Boris, in his sudden wisdom, made sure to have that arm sprawled as far away from the grip as possible. Realizing just how much of an unexpected jam he was in, Boris sorely wished it was just his legs in danger of being crushed. All it would take was one strong clench of the troll’s fist and it would be over. He squeezed his eyes shut in wait for his end...

When it didn’t happen, Boris chanced opening his eyes. The troll was looking right back at him, contemplating on what it should do with its prize. The moment the Russian moved within the troll’s grasp he realized he shouldn’t have, for the grip tightened a bit quicker than he’d anticipated. There was an intense pain in his shoulder as it threatened to either dislocate or break, and Boris bit his lip in an attempt to block all sensation out. It didn’t work.

He needed a way out. Something, anything... he’d even welcome Darien Vaight’s help if help would have been allowed. Well, on second thought, maybe he wouldn’t. Boris was far too proud to really accept anyone’s help, especially an enemy’s. The teenager cried out in pain as he felt at least three ribs crack and break under the pressure... “You vant to play like that...” Boris panted, trying to ignore the pain. “THEN LET’S PLAY!” he shouted, sending a curse directly at one of the troll’s dark eyes.

Success! Boris’s mind cheered when the grip on his body was released. That, was, until he realized he had a rather long drop ahead of him. A Russian curse of the non-magical variety left his lips mere seconds before he hit the ground with a sickening crack. His legs had been the first thing to hit, and upon turning his head to survey where this new pain was coming from he found out precisely what he didn’t want to know. From knee to foot his left leg looked clearly off. It was broken from the fall he’d been too preoccupied to prevent. The good news was that one troll was sufficiently down. That only left one more to contend with.

With as much speed as he could gather, Boris got to his feet and hobbled over toward the door that was to be his main objective. The troll was figuratively right on his heels. It attempted to strike him with its recently-taken-up club but missed by a few feet. Reverberations from the failed attack once again sent him sprawling into the dirt-and-pebble-strewn ground. Raven brows furrowed in irritation at his failure to stay on his feet. With a snarl of fury Boris cast a spell to wrench the wood of the door off its hinges and assault the troll: flitting around like a pesky mosquito for several seconds before turning into a dog collar and chain link. The chain attached itself to the nearest bit of rock, while the collar slipped and locked around the troll’s neck. Boris smirked, thinking his job was done, and began trudging his way toward the cave.

......... but froze when he heard the thunderous crunching, crumbling noise that was the troll pulling itself free. Dammit... Boris sighed in no small amount of aggravation. Summoning as much of his magical prowess as he could spare, Boris aimed a transfiguring spell directly at the troll’s club and prayed his plan would work.

A loud hiss erupted from the arena as the club slowly transfigured itself into a gigantic snake, coiling upon itself to stare the troll in the eyes. Startled, the creature released its former club and took up a rock. The serpent was reminiscent of a cobra, hood wide open and fangs bared. What neither the transfigured club nor the troll realized was that though it had the appearance of a gigantic snake it was by no means as poisonous. This, however, worked to Boris’s advantage as the club/snake coiled around the troll’s legs, firmly binding it from moving and causing it to lose its balance. The earthquake-type rumble as the troll went down, hitting its head on a boulder en route, was perhaps the most satisfying sound to Boris. With a self-satisfied smirk, the teenager limped into the cave.

Boris felt relief wash over him as he was enveloped back into darkness, though he was slightly unnerved. What if something further still awaited him in here? Unfortunately, a cloud of green covered his eyes from being out in the sun for the length of time he was. He didn’t hear anything, but that really didn’t matter. There were silent creatures such as the boggart and lethifold... and magical traps put into place would not make noise, either. For a few moments, he stood there, wand drawn, in wait for his eyes to once again readjust.

A great amount of gems were in this room, he noticed, as his vision cleared. Was he meant to take one? Would he be attacked by something else the moment he approached or even touched one of the jewels? Boris couldn’t be sure, but he knew he had to pick one of these. What was it? Sapphire? Ruby? Emerald? Diamond? There were several to choose from, and not a clue as to which one it was. However, the emerald was on a pedestal higher than the rest. Perhaps that one was his goal. Conjuring a walking stick so he could walk a bit more efficiently than the hobbled steps he’d managed earlier, Boris slowly made his way toward the emerald.

Just as his fingers closed around the gem it glowed blue, and the cave interior vanished within the blink of an eye...

The Task.....Mountain Trolls?! Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Task.....Mountain Trolls?!   The Task.....Mountain Trolls?! EmptyFri Jul 10, 2009 8:10 pm

Diana threaded into the Arena, her wand securely in her hand. Her heart was not beating… no – pounding in her chest. She could feel every pump her heart made like an earthquake.

She turned to give one final look at her fellow housemates, the Gryffindor gave a cheer. Helena gave her a reassuring smile, Nicolas a confident grin.

‘Great, just great.’ Diana thought. ‘I’m going to make a fool out of myself in front of … oh just a few hundred people.’

She glanced at the rest of the crowd looking for a glance of a certain someone called Darien Vaight. No – she couldn’t think about him, not now of all times. She wanted him wished her luck. Stupid, stupid. They were over. As much as she didn’t like it one bit, they were over. But then again, he told his sister to tell her about the task… surely that meant he still felt something for her… right?

She felt heat, she was wearing too much clothes, but then the parts of her skin that were exposed to the unforgiving wind were freezing. She felt her feet, with each step she took, her boots were a little loose… what the – she’d just about to partake what would probably be the most dangerous thing in her life and all she can think about was how her clothes fit her? She shook her head.

She was a Gryffindor, she was a Casillas. Bravery went across her mind. Bravery, what bravery? This was stupidity. How in Merlin’s hat did she get herself into this mess? It should have been Nick, Nicolas would thrive in something like this. She should have taken Nick’s suggestion about the Polyjuice Potion more seriously. Honestly, who’d find out? Well it was too late now, she was here and he was there. She snapped herself out of it. Focus, she needed to focus.

Why did she need to come last? Now the trolls were probably irritated beyond relief, all ready to take her into their grimy little arms and give her one big friendly welcome. Her left boot was particularly loose.

She sighed. ‘Here we go.’

She found herself surrounded by grey boulders of different sizes. It would have made a good grim painting. Greyness and desolation. Why did artist have to be tortured souls? ‘To give them an edge.’ Diana heard Nicolas’ voice go through her head. Well it looked like she was about to get her edge.

She hopped up and saw a clearing, and there they were, two trolls, just as Ana promised. They seemed to be… talking? Well it was more like one would grunt and then other would grunt twice.

Diana hid behind a large boulder.

Okay, now to think. How to get through troll 1 and troll 2 to get to the cave? Safely would be preferable. With all of her limbs still in tact another plus. What to do? Well she could transfigure a couple of rocks into something that could distract the trolls… but would they take the bait? Sure they weren’t really the brightest of Magical Creatures but… it would be fatal if they didn’t and she made a ran for it. Besides she didn’t really want to test that theory… She could summon her broom fly over them? … Her broom was fast enough… her reflexes would probably enable her to dodge the trolls should them come after her…Or she could - before she could formulate another plan of action, her left foot, fumbled (her boots were loose), lost it’s balance and slipped, Diana managed to remain up right but the commotion made several rocks slip from their place, making their way down to the trolls, noisily.

Diana looked up at the trolls, to see if they heard it. Looking up, she saw a pair of black beady eyes looking directly at her. Both of them frozen, for several seconds they merely stared at each other, Diana and the troll, the troll and Diana. Then Troll 2 saw Diana and roared. Troll 1 remembered itself and roared at Diana. A reflex, Diana pointed her wand in the general direction of the trolls and screamed the first spell that she thought of.

“Avis!”

Several birds launched from her wand and went straight for a troll. The troll growled at the birds and they started to fly around his face. Diana took this opportunity to make a run for it.

Of course the other troll, not preoccupied with the birds when after Diana. She was after all, bright red in a sea of grim and grey. She never did regret being in Gryffindor until that very moment… well perhaps Canary Yellow wasn’t the best idea either.

The ground shook as the troll pursued Diana. Diana was disoriented and had trouble keeping her balance. In this unclear state, Diana miscalculated a turn and ended up in a dead end. Left, right and centre, there were large rocks blocking her path and behind her… well was a large mountain troll. She turned around and faced it, her back pressed against the rock wall behind her.

It gave a rumble… well it wasn’t really it per se, as it turns out, the boulders around them were loose in their place. Both the troll and Diana looked around them. Rocks started rolling down wards, headed straight for the troll. The troll whined and put his arms around his head to protect his face and closed it’s eyes. Diana was close enough to the rock wall that the bounders wouldn’t it hit her. However, the troll was open for the rocks to fall at it. Diana didn’t know what she was thinking. She cast a shielding charm over the troll. The rocks fell and bounced off before it hit the troll.

The troll heard the collision but didn’t feel it. It opened its eyes slowly and it looked at her, she had her wand out keeping the shielding charm in place. The troll looked up. The rocks were falling but none of it where hitting him. He gave off an odd sounding grunt. Then he repeated the odd sounding grunt. It took several seconds for Diana to realize that the troll was actually laughing.
Finally, the rock avalanche stopped and Diana carefully took the shielding charm off. The troll continued to laugh and turned around leaving Diana alone.

Diana was rather stunned.

“Well alright then, to the cave.” She turn towards her destination and reached it without trouble.

The cave entrance was locked. It didn’t seem like the Alohamora charm was going to work but she tried it anyway. She also tired several other unlocking charms but none of it worked. She considered setting fire to the entire thing but pushed that thought away as it might actually burn the clue inside. She looked around and found a rock and threw it at the entrance. Well that didn’t work.

Suddenly she felt the earth rumble and shake. She turned around and saw a troll nearing her. She readied herself for another attack. However, the troll simply walked past her and to the cave’s entrance. It took its wooden club and hit it several times. The entrance cracked open and the troll pulled it the rest of the way. Then to Diana’s surprise, it then moved away from the cave.

Diana stared at the troll. “Thanks…?” The troll grunted and went back to the other troll… who decided that the birds that Diana sent to attack them were a rather tasty treat. Diana entered the cave.

Inside Diana saw what must have been the clue, since it was the only thing there. She touched it and felt it pull her away from there.
