Kaminski - Character & Family Development

((This first post will be similar to the Kaminski Dacha / Mansion thread I should be starting soon... And I think it only best that I give kudos to Lustre, because the Casillas house/family development format is a bit similar.))

History of the Family

The Kaminski’s are an old wizarding family originating from Southern Russia. Though the family was officially founded as a dynasty of sorts by Vyacheslav Kaminski, it had existed as a prominent familial unit at least four generations previous. In Russia, they now have a similar wealth an influence to that of the Malfoy or Black families of Britain, again thanks to Vyacheslav. Also similar to both of the aforementioned clans, many a Kaminski has delved into the dark arts and magics the ministry would surely frown upon. Such knowledge is pretty much an open secret in Russia, however they have influential representatives within the Russian sphere of wizarding law.

Some family members are more prominent in the family’s histories than others. For more information on given individuals, please review the Genealogical Tapestry and accompanying leather-bound book entitled: Скрепления крови [The Bonds of Blood; lit. Fastenings of the Blood].

Soviet Era & Before the Fire of 1918
Before Vyacheslav inherited the house as entirely his own, the official Kaminski estate was little more than a large-ish country cottage amidst a nearby forest. Magical-expansion spells allowed more room, but during Soviet times the expanse of land one was granted was not great. Vast gardens of sorts surrounded the grounds of the estate, where most of the family grew potion ingredients for the local apothecary. It just so happened that said apothecary owned the land the Kaminski’s lived on. Though their name had a bit of influence in Russia, they were more like the Weasleys before their rapid ascension to elite status. Boris Vyacheslavich Kaminski was the first owner of the house to purchase the land from the apothecary, though he left the house exactly the same as it was for the time being.

When Rostislav, Boris’ second-born but first male heir, had attempted to wrest the house from being willed to his two twin brothers, Igor and Ivan, it was Igor that challenged their elder brother to a duel, and whomever won said duel would get the house. As luck would have it, Igor fought with all the tenacity and ferociousness the descendents so named Kaminski tend to brag about. Due to all the bad memories of the duel, it was with heavy hearts that Igor and Ivan began the blazing fire that would reduce the former Kaminski Dacha to ashes, now owning the land they lived on and officially laying claim to their elite status by rebuilding an even larger, more fortified mansion.


After the 1918 Fire to Present
The twins rebuilt the house to their own specifications, including fortifying spells, secret passageways, and trap doors. They playfully referred to it as “The Kaminski Funhouse” while building it. Their wives thought they had far too much fun with the project. It hasn’t changed much since then, and has a definitely Gothic (not as in the Germanic tribe known as Goths!) look on the inside. Much of the surrounds still house herbs for potions, though House elves have since taken over much of the duties once performed by Kaminski ancestors.

The reception room – the first portion of the home that is seen by visitors – is home to the various Kaminski Family Tapestries and the book Bonds of Blood. Generally the most recent tapestry is put on display, which spans from the years 1842 – 2018, insofar as Family Genealogist, Pavel Zakharovich Kaminski, is aware of.

This ancient-looking book hovers in front of the Kaminski Family Tapestry as a testament of sorts to the most notable figures through the ages. The title is best translated as “The Bonds of Blood”.

Once a Translation Spell is used: "Those named below are the most prominent members of the family blood and their accomplishments. Should they never be forgotten (or [deservedly] cursed)."


Vyacheslav Sevastyanov Kaminski – Founded the family dynasty through a source of great wealth and influence never before held by a Kaminski. Born 1842; Died 1885.

Boris Vyacheslavich Kaminski – Sentenced to life in Azkaban for murdering his brother-in-law, Anatoli. The motivation for such an act was out of avenging his sister’s death, who had been murdered by her husband out of blame for their two-year-old son’s death. Born in 1863; Died in 1918.

Rostislav Borisovich Kaminski – Lived up to the etymology of his name (“to usurp glory”) by fighting brothers Igor and Ivan tooth and nail for ownership of the Kaminski estate, which was rightfully Igor’s according to Boris’ will. Igor subsequently dueled him for ownership and won. The mediwizards of the era claim that Rostislav appeared to have died of his injuries from said highly-publicized duel, but in reality Igor had murdered his brother in cold blood ((with Slytherinesque tactics)) for control of the house.

Igor Borisyevich (formerly Borisovich) Kaminski – “Likely” murdered Rostislav (who was wanted by the Russian Ministry anyway), which in turn created a nasty rivalry with the widowed Natasha Kaminskaya. When it was discovered that Angela, Ivan’s wife, was slowly poisoning her husband for monetarial reasons, Igor did away with her as well. To make up for the crime in his own eyes, he committed himself to raising Ivan’s two sons, Yosif and Aleksandr, along with his own two sons. Afterward, Igor committed himself to magical medicine and workings of the semi-medical sort in hopes to find a cure for the poison used and possibly bring his brother back from the dead, but a grave error caused his fate to be no more different than his twin brother’s. Born in 1899; Died in1994.

Aleksandr Ivanovich Kaminski – Attempted to become the next Dark Lord 2 weeks after Lord Voldemort’s first defeat by The Boy Who Lived. Initially a Death Eater, Aleksandr had been plotting to find a way to overthrow Voldemort and claim the power and prestige his Lord had possessed. However, several of his fellow Death Eaters refused to accept that their Lord had been defeated by a child, and hence didn’t tolerate his notions so soon after Voldemort’s fall. Thus, in conclusion, he was murdered by his fellows under the pretense of treason.

Ivan was poisoned by wife for money – because of recent Kaminski wealth, he was worth quite a bit of gold.

Yosif died a couple days after the Russian Christmas, which he had spent partying with fellow Durmstrang students. It was later discovered that his best friend used the Killing Curse on him over girl issues whilst drunk.
